SLIGO LEITRIM LEAGUE - RESULTS / FIXTURES
In the Sligo Southern Super League Carbury FC entertained Cliffoney Celtic on Wednesday night at Mac Sharry Park taken all three points with a super show from Jason Lyons hitting four goals and a goal each from Tyler Stallard and Christopher Kelly while keeping a clean sheet.
Carbury were next away in the big derby match of the weekend to league leaders MCR at Sean Fallon Park Cranmore Road. In a poor enough game with nerves playing a big part Carbury emerged winners by the odd goal in three. Jason Lyons and Jake Dykes netting a goal each.
MCR replied through Ciaran Harvey and with 10 minutes remaining they lost Damien Shannon to a second yellow card.
Despite this setback MCR FC are six points clear with both teams on 20 games played. MCR have a tight grip on the Cup effectively with two games in hand its still theirs for the taking. Carbury will not relinquish their crown lightly so its down to who wants it the most.
Coolaney United travelled to Mc Sharry Park Astro pitch this very wet Saturday evening to play Real Tubber FC in a crunch Super league match for the Coolaney lads.
Starting brightly and zipping the ball around on the slick Astro surface Coolaney found themselves one nil down after 4min when a mistake was brutally punished, and the ball was in the Coolaney net after going through the Coolaney goalkeeper Ryan McAuley's legs.
Coolaney dusted themselves down and continued to play their passing game and were rewarded when a fantastic cross from Jack Sommers was met sweetly by Joe McMunn to give the Real Tubber goalkeeper no chance.
The game was end to end as the rain pelted down but it was the Coolaney lads who scored next in the 30th minute when Cathal Davey netted after a square ball across the box by Ciaran McMurray. Coolaney kept pushing for a 3rd goal but were caught out in the last minute of the first half when Real Tubber equalised after a quick break that was slotted home.
Half Time Score: Real Tubber FC 2 - 2 Coolaney United
The second half started brightly again for the Coolaney lads, and they capitalised when Cathal Davey scored again after another assist by Ciaran McMurray in the 48th minute. Coolaney were really playing well and were battling for every ball and deservedly got their 4th goal in the 75th minute when Joe McMunn poked home his second goal of the game.
Coolaney tried to see out the game for the last 15min but a skewed ball that looped over Coolaney goalkeeper Ryan McAuley in the 80th minute made things nervy but thankfully the local lads saw out the remainder of the game to claim a deserved win in a very enjoyable game of football on a rotten night.
Final Score: Real Tubber FC 3 - 4 Coolaney United
St Johns with a superb hat trick from Malachy Spratt plus a fine induvial finish from Conor Brennan took all three points at Mac Sharry Park against a fine Leitrim side Manor Rangers who scored once courtesy of Dylan Gilligan.
Arrow Harps at home to Ballisodare Utd shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw. Dara Callaghan and Declan Willis on the Mark for Harps with Conor Davey bagging both goals for The Boys from Ballisodare.
Aughanagh Celtic had a massive win at home to Calry Bohs this despite a brilliant hat trick from Eoin Nicholson for Bohs. But Aughanagh in Super League survival mode battled and won this excellent encounter thanks to 2goals from John Craig with a goal each from Seamus Kane, Sean Bruen and Brendan Hailstones.
In the Connacht Junior Cup Strand Celtic were away to Cloonfad A goal down at the break Strand hit back to level matters one minute into the second half when Michael McKeown fired home from the penalty spot and with 5 minutes remaining Niall McDermott rifles home a glorious strike to put Strand Celtic into the Semi Finals of the Connacht Cup.
In the Connacht Shield Junior Quarter finals Benbulben FC travelled to Galway to take on Salthill Devon B who scored 4 goals to Benbulbens 1
Ballymote Celtic travelled to Conn Rangers and lead at the break 2- 0 with a Cian Kilcoyne strike plus an own goal. Conn Rangers hit back in the second half scoring 3 goals with reply to advance.
