ENDA MCGUILL CUP FINAL

BOHEMIANS….1

(Jamie Mullins 52)

ST PATRICK’S ATHLETIC … 0

A powerfully struck Jamie Mullins goal on 52 minutes proved enough to see Bohemians claim the EA Sports National Under 19 league Enda McGuill Cup before a sizable attendance at Dalymount Park.

The win denied recently crowned u19 champions St Patrick’s Athletic the chance to complete a league and cup double.

Mullins applied a superb finish after creating the opportunity himself when he was allowed to weave past several defenders in the box and beat a helpless Kian Clements for what turned out to be the cup winning strike.

The win is consolation for Bohs who lost out on penalties to Derry City last season’s decider at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium but a disappointment for the Inchicore side who had already defeated their opponents in both of their league meetings this season.

There was little between the sides in an entertaining opening half that might have seen Bohs go ahead through James McManus and Mullins but both were denied by excellent defending from Sean McHale and the Curtis brothers Ben and Sam.

While Ben Curtis did head wide from a Luke O'Brien corner.

The deadlock was finally broken early after the resumption when Mullins, later named Man of the Match, pounced to rifle his shot past Clements.

St Pats roared back in search of an equaliser and a couple of corners and a shout for a penalty when Jason Folarin tumbled in the box might have brought them level.

Their best chance then came after great play by Folarin saw Bohs just about scramble the ball away from danger only for Ben McCormack to regain possession but his finish went wide.

Aaron Doran with a first-time volley towards the finish could have sealed the Bohs win in the closing minutes but it missed the target.
