CP DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY CAPTURE SERVICES OF PETER CHERRIE AS GK COACH

SAFE HANDS: Dundalk’s Peter Cherrie is the new CP Academy Goalkeeper Director.

DUNDALK FC’S experienced goalkeeper Peter Cherrie has been appointed as CP Ireland Goalkeeper Coach in a genuinely positive initiative on the part of the football programme which comes in under the FAI’s Football For All umbrella.

Brilliant work is carried out by the coaching staff on behalf of the enthusiastic body of players and the arrival of Cherrie is a real coup for CP Ireland and a statement of intent to raise standards to the highest possible level.

Cherrie, who has a stellar playing career in the League of Ireland also saw service in his native Scotland with Clyde and has lined out against the likes of Wayne Rooney and Ruud van Nistelrooy during a career where he has close to 300 senior appearances.

He hit the ground running on Saturday putting the senior players through their paces and was delighted with the level of ability and attitude of the player under his guidance.

Cherrie runs his own goalkeeping academy in the Dundalk and south Louth area and brought a range of goalkeeper specific drills which the players clearly enjoyed during the two hour session.

Elsewhere the Development Academy, the Girls Section and Seniors were all going through their respective workouts and the enthusiasm and desire to improve was evident throughout. The CP Academy has many supporters including FAI President Gerry McAnaney.

Players come from all corners of Ireland and they put on a display of commitment and attitude that ensures the atmosphere is always first class and always conducted with smiles from both players and coaching staff.

That positivity is infectious and along with the encouragement of parents and guardians guarantees the training sessions are all conducted in a fun and caring way.

The CP Academy comes under the FAI’s Football For All platform and new candidates are always welcome and guaranteed a homely and inclusive welcome.

The programme caters for all abilities but provides a platform all the way up to international competition and CP Ireland has an excellent record of achievement representing the country overseas and at home based competitions.

While all the needs of the players are met through grants, contributions and fundraising, the CP Academy is always anxious to attract in additional funds to meet their running costs and any company or individual who would like to support the CP Academy through a sponsorship arrangement, is asked to contact Donal Halpin at 087 788 2109 to discuss further.

Clubs around the country are also encouraged to develop their own Football For All programme and embrace the goal of providing football for everyone who would like to participate in the sport - regardless of age, gender or ability.
