Sunday 19 February 2023

Hanover bowed out of the National Cup after a great battle with a strong Home Farm team in Dublin on Sunday afternoon.

The Carlow team started well and most of the early play took place in the Home Farm half of the field.

The home team grew into the game and after a goalmouth scramble following a corner, the ball was poked home with Hanover claiming handball.

The score was 2-0 at the break with Home Farm converting a close range chance.Hanover stayed in the game through the second half and reduced the defecit through a good Sam McHugh finish.

Time was against them however and with men committed upfield, Home Farm scored a third and the referee blew immediately for full time.

A great team effort from all Hanover players on the day.

New Oak Vs Carrigaline Hibs

New Oak 7-0 Carrigaline Hibs

New Oak welcomed Corks Carrigaline Hibs on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

Both teams started quickly, with Carrigaline playing the nicer football in the opening few minutes. New Oak caught them on the counter attack with Kyle Kinsella charging towards goals with the ball before playing the ball across goal for Kiegan Lawlor to poke home.

New Oak slowly began to gain confidence through the half, which resulted in a corner taken by Kalem Geoghegan for Darragh Casey to head New Oaks second. New Oak quick hit for three with Kalem Geoghegan finding the back of the net. and just before the the half time break Tobias Stiebia caught on the end of a ball over the top, controlling it before scoring from the edge of the eighteen yard box.

The second half commenced and Carrigaline showed their quality playing lovely football in the middle of the pitch and out wide, showing fighting spirit which unlucky for them did not result in a goal.

Kyle Kinsella won the ball back from the Carrigline defenders before showing some individual skill to score his first of the game, Carrigaline were the tallest in the box rising on the end of a set peice that was saved by Cathal Kennedy, Keigan Lawlor then carried the ball from one half to the other before poking his second home. And to end the goals for New Oak was Adonai Ngenkam picking up the ball form Cormac Murphy, then slotting home his first and only of the game.

Everyone at New Oak would like to thank everyone at Carrigaline Hibs for taking the time to travel and we would like to wish them the best for the remainder of their season.

Bagenalstown

Fresh morning for a match between Crettyard and Bagenalstown in Crettyard pitch. Match started with both teams matching each other in the middle of the field.

Bagenalstown created most of the chances in the first half but Crettyard back line with Elliott Rice in goal and a young Darragh Brennan very strong and held them out. Crettyard created a few chance from the right where Tiernan Pattersons was having a great game down that side.

Second half seen Bagenalstown take advantage of Crettyard falling asleep in a set piece floating in the ball into the box for a soft header to give away. Crettyard gave it all they could. A few chances from Bobby Rowan but it wasn't to be.
Great game over all teams matching each other only for a soft goal.
Great team effort by Crettyard.

Strong second half sees Vale claim the spoils

Vale Wanderers welcomed Parkville to the Superbowl in perfect conditions, the home side taking the points on offer .

A succession of Vale corners threatened to provide a breakthrough early on however Parkville's rearguard defended stoutly time and again, that resilience however eventually broke when Fionn Forde responded quickest to a rebound for 1-0 on 20 mins , Parkville's reply while not immediate it nevertheless came , Dylan Walker with an almost identical goal for 1-1 on half time.

The second half saw Vale try to regain the initiative, their pressure paying off with a Fionn Forde second from close range on 45 mins.

The next goal was always going to be vital and courtesy of a Ciaran Bambrick free kick that arrived on 50 mins for 3-1 with the same player netting his second also from a free kick to seal the victory for Vale, these came after Fionn Forde had almost claimed his hat trick , a feat that Ciaran Bambrick did achieve shortly after heavy Vale pressure up front paid off for 5-1 .

A great team move in the dying moments ended in seeing a cracker of a Daniel Brennan effort for Vale from distance hit the angle of post and crossbar and cleared to safety

Best for Vale were AJ Dooley, Alan Fitzgerald and Daniel Brennan while for Parkville Dwyer Murphy, Neil O' Byrne and Bobby Keenan were best

A disappointing result for Vale despite having the better of the opening exchanges. After conceding the opening goal, Vale heads dropped and Ballymurphy started to dominate, however an outstanding penalty save from Ryan Kearney, who dived full length to tip a well struck spot kick around the post kept Vale in it.

Unfortunately for the home side, they played themselves into trouble and conceded thecsecond shortly after which was quickly followed by a third just before half-time.

Vale came out showing more energy and fight in the second half and Adam Walsh whipped a free-kick into the top corner from 20 yards and Alan Lawlor finished a good pass from Ryan Cummins who did well to close down the Bally defender attempting to carry the ball out.

Bally added three more goals to their tally in the second half but Vale will be happier with the second half performance if not the overall performance and result.

Goalscorers for Vale were Adam Walsh and Alan Lawlor
Best performers included Walsh, Lawlor and Shaun Sibanda.

Goalscorers for Ballymurphy were Sean O'Brienx2, Danny Jordan, Shane Jordan, James Dalton and Charlie Foley.

Saints Come Good Following Late Rally In Rathvilly

U13 - Div.2 Slaney Rovers 1 - 3 St Anne's

St. Anne's were out of the blocks early with Jamie Reardon heading home a cross from the right on 10 minutes. Slaney upped their game after this setback but despite plenty of possession for the rest of the half, they couldn't hit the target, with Rian Nolan's effort just wide of the post.

After the break, Slaney looked a bit more menacing, with Ronan Bochnia carving open the Saints defence, to set up Kallan McCabe for a deserved equaliser, which rewarded the efforts of Kirsten Doyle and Will Darcy. Anne's came back with a late rally, as Tristen Kenny finished well from close range and another header from James Riordan, which rewarded the efforts of Cillian Dobbyn and Teo Lynskey.

This top of the table clash started at a hectic pace with both teams looking to attack from the beginning. St Fiaccs won the early midfield battle and were getting good supply to their strikers and Killeshin looked dangerous on the break.

Evie Stynes and Lily Monahan were linking up well in the Fiaccs attack and Sytnes had a good shot which hit the side netting. Laura Malone made some good runs down the left of the Killeshin attack but her crosses were cleared by the Fiaccs defence.

defences were proving difficult to get past with Faye Brennan and Eimear Pender doing well in the Killeshin defence and Niamh Egan making a number of good saves from Monaghan and Aoife O'Shea, with a particularly good save from a Monahan free kick.

The Fiaccs defence of Ellie Maher, Holly Hernan and Lexi

Hernan were coping well with the Killeshin attack and Laura Malone did get a great shot in

but Heidi Buggy was on hand to make a good save which seen it all square at half time. The

second half started at a great pace and again both teams looking to attack. Fiaccs had the

better of the early exchanges but again Brennan and Grainne Keogh were solid in the

Killeshin defence. Sienna Smith and Cara Morgan were putting in an unbelievable shift in the

Fiaccs midfield helping create attacks and stop Killeshin breaking. Cara Morgan made a

super run through the Killeshin defence and was fouled just outside the box. Monahan

stepped up and sent the free kick to the back of the net to give Fiaccs the lead. Killeshin

responded and applied some pressure but Ellie Maher and Maisy Aylward were proving

difficult to get past. Killeshin had a number of corners and Mollie O'Reilly put in some great

deliveries but Fiaccs cleared the danger. Smith and Morgan were battling really hard in the

Fiaccs midfield with Monahan and Stynes always dangerous on the break. Killeshin kept

trying to get an equaliser but Fiaccs defended very well with Buggy making a good save late

on. Fiaccs held on for the win in a fantastic game of soccer played in a very sporting manner

and overall it was a great advertisement for girls soccer in Carlow. Best for Fiaccs were Ellie

Maher, Holly Hernan, Sienna Smith, Cara Morgan and Lily Monahan. Best for Killeshin
