U16 League 2022/23

St Patrick’s Boys AFC Red 5, Vale Wanderers AFC 1,

Saturday 04 February 2023 The Meadows Graiguecullen (StPats Boys)

On a day with ideal conditions for football, both teams started brightly. As the game wore on

however, St Pat’s started to show their quality. The first chance came on 5 mins with some

enterprising play in the wide area. A cross by Conor Dunne was put just wide by Brian

Santos. Chances were being created by the home side, however a combination of good

defending and bad luck kept the scores level into the 20th minute.

Pats had to be wary of the

counterattack and Vale almost fashioned an opener with a long ball into the box. The forward

having his shot well saved by Luke Dooley. The opener for the home side duly arrived on the

23rd minute, Jan Flejszar with a good through ball and Brian Santos, with a one on one with

the goalkeeper, making no mistake from 10 yards. Half time score 1-0.

The home side upped the tempo further in the second half and were rewarded on 43mins with

another well taken strikers finish by Brian Santos. Vale battled on and forced a corner shortly

afterwards. The low cross from the corner was poked home, low to the keepers left, pulling

one back for the away side. This spurned the home side on again however and some intricate

football yielded another goal, this time a fine strike into the bottom corner by Jan Flejszar

after some good play in the central area. The fourth goal came from a high ball into the box,

well controlled by Bobby Jordan who laid it off for Jan Flejszar for his second goal of the

game.

With 10 minutes remaining, enterprising play by Jayden Kelly, beating two players on

the edge of the area, fired a long range shot into the goal from 20 yards for the home sides

fifth of the game. Final score of 5-1 to St Patrick’s Boys.

Best for St Pats on the day were, Jan Flejszar a tireless presence in the midfield. Brian

Ferreira Dos Santos and Mauro Martinez.

Killeshin AFC 1, St Joseph’s AFC Black 0,

Saturday 04 February 2023 Scats Quakers Park, Killeshin

This was a very close game with chances by both teams. It was a fairly even first half with neither

side getting the upper hand and it ended in a scoreless 0-0.

Killeshin had the better chances in the second half scoring the only goal of the game, it proving to be

the winning goal and coming by means of a great individual effortl from Jose Fendo in the last ten

minutes of the game. Final score Killeshin 1-0 St Joseph’s Black

Hanover Harps AFC 5, Burrin Celtic AFC 0,

Saturday 04 February 2023 The Plots (Hanover Harps)

With an early start today Hanover Harps hosted Burrin Celtic in The Plots for a brilliant game of

soccer. Both teams wide awake, it was a very even game to start with plenty of shots taken but none

on target. That is until just before the half time whistle when Alex Mazur scored Hanover’s first goal

from a fantastic corner by Charlie McHugh. And only one minute later, an absolutely perfect volley in

from Alex Mazur saw Alex Broderick hit the back of the net to make it 2-0 to Hanover at half time.

With everything still to play for, again both teams came out in the second half fighting for goals.

Hanover dominating the play but Burrin’s defence stepping up not allowing any shots on target.

However, it was the amazing Alex Mazur again causing trouble for Burrin getting Hanover’s 3rd goal.

And within minutes, another lovely corner from Charlie McHugh saw Alex Mazur get his hat trick

with a perfectly placed header in the back of the net. Burrin were fighting back with some lovely

attacking play and keeping Hanover on their toes. In the last few minutes of the game Axel o Rock

wrapped up the game with a beautifully executed goal to make the final score 5-0.

Goal scorers for Hanover Alex Mazur, Alex Broderick ,Axel O Rock.

Hanover Harps AFC 2, Killeshin AFC 2,

Saturday 04 February 2023 The Plots (Hanover Harps)

On a lovely fresh morning in The Plots, Hanover Harps met Killeshin for an amazing game of soccer

that made sure both sides were wide awake. It was Killeshin who dominated play in the first half

with the Hanover defenders and goal keeper working very hard to keep shots off target. However,

just before the half time whistle Killeshin broke through and scored a beautiful goal.to give a 1-0

lead to Killeshin at half time.

In the second half it was Hanover that came out stronger and piling on the pressure. Lots of shots

taken by both teams. It was 10 minutes into the second half when Killeshin got one of those shots on

target making the score 2-0 to them. After a slight fumble on the goal line from Killeshin only one

minute later, Hanover were back in the game 2-1. Neither team were giving up, it was game on.

Hanover putting Killeshins defence under pressure and vice versa, it made for a very exciting game

of soccer. However, it was Andrian Robu for Hanover who broke through the Killeshin defence and

went one on one with the keeper coming out with a perfectly placed equaliser. Final score 2-2.

Goal scorer for Hanover Andrian Robu.

Goal scorers for Killeshin Mickey Regan.

Vale Wanderers AFC 0, St Joseph’s AFC 2,

Saturday 04 February 2023 The Superbowl Leighlinbridge (Vale Wanderers)

This bottom of the table clash didn’t disappoint as two closely matched teams battled hard in an

entertaining game. Both teams exchanged chances in the first half with St Joseph’s coming close on

two occasions. All square at half time.

Vale came out strong and hit the crossbar with a long range free kick from Diarmuid Redmond.

With more chances for Vale in the second half it was St Joseph’s who broke the deadlock with 3 mins

left in normal time. Vale pushed for an equaliser and a great save from Oisin Byrne kept Joseph’s in

the lead. With Vale pushing for an equaliser, some gaps appeared at the back and Paidi Breen

doubled Joseph’s lead in the closing seconds. Final score Vale 0 – 2 St Joseph’s.

An entertaining game that was a lot closer than the scoreline suggests.

Saturday 04 February 2023 Burrin Road Carlow (New Oak Boys)

In a tightly fought contest, New Oak started brightly forcing the Pats keeper into three early

saves. However it was St Pats who took the lead from a great cross and headed finish by

Podge Brennan. New Oak pressed but the half time result was 0-1.

In the second half New Oak pressed high and retained possession but when chasing the

equaliser conceded a second, scored by Podge Brennan again. Straight away New Oak were

handed a lifeline with a penalty for handball slotted coolly away by Blake O’Grady. New

Oak pushed for a second but the St Pats defence remained firm to walk away with the 3

points on 1-2 scoreline.

Ballymurphy Celtic AFC 4, Nurney Villa AFC 0,

Saturday 04 February 2023) Ballymurphy

After a very even start to the game between two very game and skillful teams, Ballymurphy worked

a great move when Joe Walsh moved a great ball to the middle and swapped passes with Kian

Moylan who in turn played a lovely through ball to Rory Murphy who riffled the ball into the Nurney

net to give Ballymurphy the lead after 12 min. The game then settled down and Nurney themselves

having some great patterns of play and brought the Bally keeper Callum Kelly into action to make 2

good saves. Bally then broke down the other end of the pitch and a handball by one of the unlucky

Nurney players in the area, and Cian Moylan dispatched a great penalty to make it 2-0 to

Ballymurphy at Half Time.

Nurney came out in the 2nd half all guns blazing and put serious pressure on the

Ballymurphy defence, with Joe Walsh, John Joyce and Josh Solway doing great work to keep

Nurney at bay. Against the run of play Ballymurphy in the 15th min of the 2nd half broke up

the field and the ball fell to the inspirational Cillian Doyle to finish to the Nurney net, with a

great finish. Nurney were very unlucky at times but Ballymurphy did stay very strong

throughout the full 60 mins and after a lovely run down the right by Josh Solway to cross to

the man we call Michael Owen junior, the mighty James Scallan tipped into an empty net.

Final Score was 4-0 to Ballymurphy Celtic.

It was a good sporting game and Nurney had a great spirit to keep going and their mentors

John Joe and James got right behind them. Their stars on the day were Paddy Ranta, Shane

Glynn,and Aaron O Brien.

The Ballymurphy team were supported by powerful perfomences from Ardagh O Shea, Finn

Scully, Noah Fitzpatrick and Josh Salway.

Killeshin AFC 2, Burrin Celtic AFC 1,

Saturday 04 February 2023 Scats Quakers Park, Killeshin.

Great end to end game held in Killeshin. Brilliant saves made by the Killeshin goalkeeper. The backs

worked hard to ensure the Burrin attacks brokedown. At the other end of the field the same can be

said of the Burrin defense as well. Burrin went one up, but Killeshin played hard to get a 2-1 win by

the end of the game. The final score 2-1 win for Killesdhin.

Scorers for Killeshin: Filip Drabek, Johnny McGrath

Scorer for Burrin: Liam Dowling

Top three players for Killeshin: Patrick Sheppard, Alfie Curran and Camryn Lynch.

Fiaccs

U12 League Division Three 2022/23

Vale Wanderers AFC 2, Kilree Celtic AFC 2,

Saturday 04 February 2023 The Superbowl Leighlinbridge (Vale Wanderers)

It was a great game between two teams in the top half of the table. Kilree got off to a good start

with some chances and some good defending from the Vale defence kept them out . Vale started to

come into the game and had their chances but failed to convert their opportunities. Just before the

half finished Kilree got a chance and Siaad Akmed shot to the top corner leaving Fionn Clarke

Brennan in the Vale goal no chance. It was 1-0 to Kilree Celtic at half-time.

Kilree started the second half well and looked the more likely and they got their second with Paul

Gladney finishing a good move down the right side. Vale never gave up and continued to create

some great chances. They got their just reward when a good move with Conor Corcoran and Frankie

Doyle linking up well and Frankies cross found its way to the net . Vale started to believe the game

was there for them and equalised when Frankie Doyle’s shot from distance found the back of the net

It was a tense last ten minutes when the home team created some chances but the Kilree defence

stood strong. It finished in a 2-2 drw.

Best for Kilree : Arron McAssey, Dylan Egan and Fiach O Rourke.

Best for Vale : Adam Keating, Breda Rochford and Frankie Doyle.

U12 League Division Three 2022/23

Ballymurphy Celtic AFC 5, Killeshin AFC 2,

Saturday 04 February 2023 Ballymurphy

On a beautiful spring morning, perfect conditions for a game of football, seen the second

meeting of Ballymurphy Celtic and Killeshinc this season.

It was the league leaders who flew out of the traps the quickest and dominated the 1st half.

Bally were 1-0 up after only 3 minutes. A lovely run by Danny Jordan down the right wing

seen him stopped only by the byline. He picked out a perfectly placed Ryan Walsh on the

back post who calmly slotted home. Danny got himself on the score sheet with 10 minutes

gone. A perfectly weighted through ball by Sam Traynor found Danny in space who took the

ball in his stride putting Bally 2-0 up. Danny got his second of the game with a beautiful left

footed strike from outside the box making it 3-0 to Bally on 13 minutes. Matthew Hayes got

Bally’s 4th on 16 minutes. It was probably his first touch of the game, coming on as a

substitute, but he made no mistake after Ryan Walsh selflessly set him up. Ruairi O'Brien

grabbed a great goal with a lovely curling effort from outside the box, giving the Killeshin

keeper no chance. Killeshin did have their chances though, Bobby Ivers in the Bally goal

made a few good saves and was quick off his line on a number of occasions. Playing like an

old style sweeper he frustrated the Killeshin strikers. Zenon Jordan and Cillian Foley were

involved in countless solid challenges letting the Killeshin players know that they meant

business and they weren't to be messed with. Half time saw Ballymurphy 5-0 ahead and

Killeshin with a mountain to climb.

Zach Allaiouti grabbed Killeshins first goal on 35 minutes. A sloppy free kick awarded to

Killeshin was expertly saved by Bobby in the Bally goal. Zach was the quickest to react to

the rebound, tapping in from close range. Sean Townsend got Killeshins 2nd on 47 minutes.

Sean found himself in acres of space inside the Bally box after the three Bally defenders all

got sucked towards the ball. Sean made no mistake and got himself on the score sheet. The

remaining 13 minutes was a very tit for tat affair. Both teams had some really good chances

but both goalkeepers refused to concede any more goals. 5 - 2 to Ballymurphy was the final

result.

Best for Ballymurphy: Zenon Jordan, Bobby Ivers, Ryan Walsh and Cillian Foley.

Best for Killeshin: Nathan Purcell, Brian Mooney and Sean Townsend.

Very exciting first meeting of both these teams this year. Both teams started brightly which had both

keepers on their toes during the first half, which ended all even 0-0 going in.

The second half again didn't fail to disappoint as both teams worked hard in the middle of the park

which finally seen Fiaccs break the deadlock in the 60th minute. New Oak battled hard but could not

find the back of the net with the Fiaccs keeper in fine form today. Fiaccs went on to score their

second with two minutes to go to finish the day the 0-2 winners.

Great game by two fantastic teams which the scoreline didn't reflect the game. All around great

team performance by both teams.

A very enjoyable and competitive game played out between New Oak Green and Nurney Villa at

Burrin Rd this morning. Both teams had good chances in the first half and it could have went either

way but it was Nurney who took the lead 2 minutes before the break with a well-crafted goal from

Alice Carroll. 1-0 to New Oak at half-time.

New Oak came out stronger in the second half and really upped their tempo. They were

rewarded for this on 52 minutes when Kayla McCormack rifled a shot in to the back of the

one of those chances on 58 minutes through Natalia Daka to take all 3 points. Full time New
