U12 Cup round 2 2022/23
Ballymurphy Celtic Div 1 4, Slaney Rovers AFC 1,
Wednesday 10th May 2023 Ballymurphy
In what was the game of the season in Ballymurphy on a nice Wednesday evening under the wonderful gaze of the blackstairs mountains, an epic battle of 2 halves between two fantastic sets of players, Slaney came out of the traps all guns blazing and had several big chances before the opener on the 20th minute, a fantastic through ball taken down delightfully by the nippy Slaney striker for a great strike from just inside the penalty box to into the Bally net. That was the way it would stay until the half time break.
It really was a game of two halves, with Slaney being so dominant in the 1st half, to an unbelievable display of football by the Bally lads in the second half.
A penalty 10 mins into the 2nd half after great work by Noah Fitz and James Scallan for the talented Cian Moylan to send the keeper the wrong way for 1-1 and game on. Slaney battled hard with some gallant performences in midfield, but come to the fore Joe Walsh with what was definitely one of the best 30 mins by a centre half ever put in on the Bally pitch.
That seemed to spur on all around him, with the game in the melting pot a lovely through ball after great work on the wing by Finn Scully and the hard working Cillian Doyle with a bullet to the Slaney net to make it 2-1.
There was no going back now and a fantastic further double by Cian Moylan to claim the match ball with a brilliant hat-trick. The man they call the “magician” had cast a spell over the Slaney backs to leave it 4-1 at the final whistle.
Credit has to go to a fantastic Slaney side, very sporting lads, and a great team of mentors. They will be very proud of their lads this evening and unfortunately there had to be a loser on the night.
For Bally no man can be singled out, it was one of the most hardworking team displays that was witnessed here on this ground and it was the trust they had in each other that made the difference.
For the gallant Slaney Rovers, Callan McCabe and the talented Timmy Jackson, Will Darcy and Nathan Young as well as the brilliant Ella Corcoran, who caused all sorts of problem for the Bally backs when introduced.
It was fantastic to see such a great sporting game by both teams, a game that won’t be forgotten for a long time in the green and white village of Ballymurphy.
Under 12 Cup round 2 2022/23
St Patrick’s Boys AFC 4, St Fiaccs 1,
Thursday 11th May 2023 The Meadows, Graiguecullen (St Pats Boys)
St. Pat's started very strongly controlling the game and creating several chances from both wings. Cailyn Thompson had a free kick which was blocked with the rebound coming back to him and he hit a shot to the bottom corner. Still St. Pat's pressed well with St. Fiaccs defending very well. St. Fiaccs grew into the game and had a great counter-attack with Dillon Doyle scoring a fantastic goal.
in the second half St. Pats still pressed creating chance after chance. Calum McMillian made a great run on the wing and a great finish. St. Fiaccs went looking for the equaliser but Pats caught them on the break and Jamal Adegoke finished well. St. Pats caught St. Fiaccs on the counter again when Podge Brennan assisted Zakaria Darsi to finish the game. F/T 4-1 to St Pats.
Stand out players for St. Fiaccs were Jack Scully, Jamie French and Dillon Doyle.
Best for St. Pats were Temi Adetoro, Podge Brennan, Leigh Haughney, and Calum McMillan.
Under 13 Cup Round 2 2022/23
Hanover Harps AFC Div 1 3, Burrin Celtic FC 2,
Thursday 11th May 2023 The Plots (Hanover Harps)
This was the first outing for both teams in the cup and it was a thrilling encounter with end-to-end action. The home side were slow to get into the game and their rocky start was punished by Burrin Celtic in the third minute who opened the scoring with a goal from Bobby Campbell.
The early score seemed to awaken the Hanover squad who showed they were up for the challenge. They were rewarded with a goal in the eighth minute when a cross from Adrian Robu into the box was headed into the net by Owen Fitzharris. The remainder of the first half was a tough battle with chances at both ends of the field. H/T 1-1,
Hanover went ahead in 33rd minute with Owen Fitzharris getting his second goal when a shot by Shay O’Grady on goal bounced off the keeper to fall at the feet of Owen who knocked it in. The home side had a couple of more chances from there to extend the lead but failed to make it count.
The Hanover defence were solid throughout the game except for an uncharacteristic nervous scramble which gave Burrin’s, Tadgh Campbell an easy opportunity to score an equalizer. Hanover scored the winning goal when a well-executed corner cross from Adrian Robu found the head of Maesfi Islam. F/T 3-2 to Hanover.
Best for Burrin: Colm Donald, Tadgh Campbell ad Glen Cantwell.
Best for Hanover: Owen Fitzharris, Nathan Walsh and Mael O'Rock.

Friday 12th May 2023 Superbowl, Leighlinbridge
On a really fine Spring evening -these close rivals met each other, with Vale seeking a double of League and Cup, whilst St Fiacc’s were looking to win the Cup, to salvage something from their season. This match had all the hallmarks of a cracking game and so it proved.
First Half.
The game opened up with Vale moving swiftly into their normal rhythm with high pressing by their midfield and attackers and putting the St Fiacc’s defenders under severe pressure.
A long ball from Vale’s Chloe Lawlor had St Fiacc’s keeper Nicole Osborne having to be on her toes, in order to come off her line in order to collect the ball.
St Fiacc’s came into the game when Leah Cummins- Nelson made a fine run down the right and crossed but Vale’s Amy Farrell caught the ball easily and Leah quickly put in another cross, which again was caught by Amy.
A free-kick by Vale’s Chloe Lawlor from all of 40 yards out was pushed over the bar by Nicole Osborne, but Vale were ruled offside,
On sixteen minutes Vale won a corner that was taken by Sarah Devine and it fell to Chloe Lawlor and from 20 yards, she thumped the ball home for Vale to take a 0 – 1 lead.
St Fiacc’s were trying to break down the Vale defence, but they were standing strong and they cleared a corner quite easily.
Vale’s Roisin Collins was coming short to pick up balls that were being played into her feet and she was providing good ball to her fellow attackers.
A great ball was played into Vale’s Kate Burke – but Nicole Osborne was quickly off her line to thwart her.
Vale’s Sarah Devine put in a corner that was headed goalwards by Moya O’Toole but Nicole Osborne saved it, at the second attempt.
St Fiacc’s Ella Matthews got free down the left and bore down on goal but she shot straight at Amy Farrell who saved easily.
Half-time came with Vale holding on to their slender 0-1 lead and everything to play for in the second – half.
Second – Half.
Vale put St Fiacc’s under some sustained pressure, at the beginning of the second half, but St Fiacc;s defended manfully and kept Vale out.
Yet another fine run and cross from Leah Cummins–Nelson brought another fine save by Vale’s Amy Farrell, as St Fiacc’s were still looking dangerous.
Vale’s Roisin Collins picked up a poor goalkick and shot from 20 yards out, but it was saved by St Fiacc’s Nicole Osborne at the second attempt.
Leah Cummins–Nelson made yet another great run down the right and fired in a magnificent low cross and was tapped home by St Fiacc’s Ciara Rooney to level the scores at 1-1 on 19 minutes.
This seemed to give St Fiacc’s a lot more confidence and a good shot from distance by Ali Doran O’Connor was saved by Amy Farrell.
Vale upped their game and they won a couple of corners in succession, but nothing came of them.
As the game entered its dying moments, Vale played in a long ball and Kate Burke latched on the ball and shot from 15 yards, but the ball was deflected high into the air and towards the goal, where Nicole Osborne could only get one hand to it and it went high into the net and gave Vale the vital winning goal for a 1-2 victory and completion of a rare double of League and Cup.
Vale were jubilant with their victory and as you’d expect – St Fiacc’s were crestfallen.
Standing out for St Fiacc’s were Leah Cummins-Nelson, Ali Doran O’Connor, Jasmine Doyle and Mia Branagan, whilst best for Vale were Kate Burke, Roisin Collins, Amy Farrell and Moya O’Toole.
Man of the Match selected by the Referee Officials was Vale’s Roisin Collins, who had a magnificent game.
Under 12 Cup round 2 2022/23
Ballymurphy Celtic AFC Div 1 3, Ballymurphy Celtic AFC Div 3 2,
Saturday 13th May 2023 Ballymurphy
On a beautiful sunny morning in the land of the green and white, a massive passionate crowd witnessed what was arguably the best juvenile game of the year. This was the dream tie, even the cats and dogs on the street were looking forward to this one since Wednesday and the 2 full squads of boys didn’t disappoint. It was end to end in the 1st half no quarter gained, before Jimmy Scallan opened the scoring in the 9th min. A fantastic individual goal for the whites. The greens though played with unbelievable skill and heart and there was no way through a very well set up defence for the whites, with Josh Salway and the ultra talented Danny Jordan having the battle of all battles in the middle of the park. ,Josh was given the man marking job on the danger man Danny, a mark of respect to the man that will go on to play pro soccer later in his career such is his undoubted ability. The greens had a goal mouth scramble near the end of the 1st half and nearly scored the equilizer with great work by the whites keeper Callum Kelly to keep it 1-0 at the break.
Again it was end to end stuff in the 2nd half. Come to the fore the brilliant Sam Traynor, always raiding on the wing after a great ball by Danny Jordan the greens equilised with Sam shooting a tidy finish to the whites net. With sub Ardagh O Shea coming in for what was his best minutes in the Bally shirt, his size and presence putting pressure on the greens defence, but no breakthrough was found and the 2 teams found themselves facing extra time.
At full time it has to be said that the star man on the field was the small man with the big heart Zenon Jordan. Matthew Hayes stood up so strong in defence also, a warrior on and off the ball. For Bally Whites, Josh Salway, Callum Kelly and Noah Fitz were unstoppable on the wing.
Roll on extra time and with 10 mins each way the boys were getting tired due to the heat. But it turned in to an epic battle again with Bally White getting 2 in quick succession with a bullet header from a corner by Joe Walsh and a well taken goal from the brilliant aforementioned Noah Fitzpatrick.
At 3-1 a lot of people were thinking the game was over, but not with this talented bunch of Greens, who came back again with 5 mins left. Again it was Sam Traynor making it a nail biting end for the whites. It finished 3-2 in the end to the whites, every parent and supporter going away proud of their lad.
Someone had to move on to semi but it was as even a game as you’re ever likely to see.
Bally Whites now go on to meet Crettyyard in the semifinal at home a 7pm Monday evening.
The Ballymurphy under 12s section is alive and healthy with two great teams on display this morning.

Baltinglass Town AFC 4, St Annes AFC 2,
Saturday 13th May 2023 Parkmore, Baltinglass
Baltinglass played host to a much-anticipated quarter final against an impressive St. Anne’s side. The game started brightly for an upbeat Baltinglass side through winger Padraig Byrne after a great assist from Josh Furlong. Quickly after Josh Furlong assisted again this time to Charlie Doyle and it wasn’t long after this repeated to give Baltinglass a comfy lead. It was 3-0 to Baltinglass at the break.
The second half saw Miles Nelligan score a great free kick to get St Anne’s back on the move, he doubled his luck and grabbed a second straight after. Josh Furlong was back assisting again to the opposite winger Noah Farrell who finished to put the game at 4-2 in favour of the home side. A tense game saw some great saves from Baltinglass keeper Tadgh Reirdon. The Baltinglass back line worked hard to keep chances to a minimum and held out well after going down to 10 men for the last few minutes. A great performance from Micheal Sibanda and Noah Farrell kept their wing closed off. The game finished off 4-2 to Baltinglass who progress to the Semi Finals.
Best for Baltinglass were: Rian Kennedy, Daniels Viskers, Garreth Doyle and Tony Kelly.

Under 14 Cup Final 2022/23
New Oak Boys AFC 2, Hanover Harps AFC Green 3,
Saturday 13th May 2023 The Meadows, Graiguecullen (St Pats)
On a perfect Spring morning – these two close rivals met in the U14’s Boys Final in St Pat’s Boys fine grounds.
Hanover were ‘out of the traps’ quickly as Timmy Adeleye made a good run down the left and crossed into the six-yard box, where it was caught by New Oak’s keeper – Cathal Kennedy.
Timmy Adeleye played in Alec Mazur down the left but he was crowded out by the New Oak defence and the attack came to naught.
On six minutes, Axel O’Rock picked up a loose ball in midfield and he fired in a screamer of a shot into the roof of the net giving Cathal Kennedy, absolutely no chance and Hanover took a slender 0-1 lead.
New Oak upped their game, as they tried to get back into the game and they were starting to move the ball quicker as they tried to get back into the game, with Kiegan Lawlor very prominent in this work.
A speculative shot from all of 35 yards by Alex Mazur was saved by Cathal Kennedy, as Hanover piled on the pressure.
Timmy Adeleye beat one player and shot from 30 yards, but it just went over the bar.
Some good play by Brian Louw on the right, saw him cross in a good ball and it was finished to the net by Alex Broderick to make the score 0-2 to Hanover on fifteen minutes,
A cross by Alex Mazur was headed wide by Brian Louw, as Hanover continued to pile on the pressure and just after another Alex Mazur cross was headed wide by Alex Broderick.
Alex Mazur shot low and hard, but it was saved by Cathal Kennedy and at this stage of the game Hanover were dominating play.
Then just before half-time, New Oak’s Cormac Lowry picked up a loose ball and from 35 yards he fired in a rocket of a shot that beat Peter Breen- Parle all ends up and got New Oak back into the game at 1 – 2.
Half-time came and there was everything to play for in this pulsating game that had come alive, following New Oak’s goal.
A good run by New Oak’s Kiegan Lawlor took him deep into Hanover’s penalty area and the Referee awarded a penalty and up stepped Cian Hyland to thrash the ball home and level the scores at 2-2 and we now had a real game on our hands.
There was slight pause in the tempo of the game as both teams paused for breath and they went at it again.
Hanover’s Alex O’Roack won and ball in midfield and he let loose a left-footed shot into the roof of New Oak’s net from 35 yards, giving Cathal Kennedy no chance and it shot Hanover back into the lead at 2 – 3.
Following a free kick – Alex O’Rock picked up a loose ball and he shot from distance and it hit the bar and was followed up by Brian Louw, who slipped the ball into the net but he was deemed offside.
Just after the whistle went for full time and it was Hanover’s Cup by 2-3.
This was a real spectacle of a match and was very tight, but Alex O’Rock’s brace of stunning shots made all the difference – credit to New Oak for their comeback, but it just wasn’t their day.
Best for New Oak were Daniel Nolan, Cormac Murphy, Keigan Lawlor and Cormac Lowry, whilst standing out for Hanover were Alex O’Rock, Brian Louw, Alex Broderick and Alex Mazur.
Man of the Match selected by the Referees was Timmy Adeleye who had a fabulous game.
