CROWNE HELPS MCR TO CLOSE IN ON CROWN!

In the Sligo Southern Hotel Super League Champions in waiting MCR continue their amazing league run winning by 2- 0 at home in Dean Fallon Park Cranmore, to visitors Cliffoney Celtic.

The scoreline looks flattering but make no mistake about they were pushed all the away by an excellent Cliffoney Celtic.

By NOEL KENNEDY

Donagh Crowne on 45 minutes gave MCR the lead and on 90 minutes ex Junior International netted goal number two to secure a massive 3 points and MCR have shown their steel to go on and lift the silverware after a testing day by Cliffoney Celtic.

It was third against fourth on Saturday night in the Super League as Cartron United took on Calry Bohs under the lights at MacSharry Park. Cartron opened the scoring on twenty-four minutes when Donal Gallagher pounced on a loose ball at the back post to give the hosts the lead. Then eight minutes later Calry were level when Aaron Flynn finished confidently to the corner from twelve yards.

In a nip and tuck game it was going to take something special to win it and it arrived for Cartron with fifteen minutes to go when Ryan Hargadon volleyed home a rocket from the fifteen yards after a fine delivery from Donal Gallagher on the right wing to seal the win and derby bragging rights.

Ballisodare hosting St Johns FC took the lead through Richie Hunter before St John's equalised with a Cormac Roddy goal. Ciaran McPartland once again put Ballisodare ahead, 2-1. St. John's hit back through a fine strike from John Feick’s. It was all St. John's from that point, and they went on to win 5-2 with goals from Malachy Spratt, Conor Healy and Darragh McGoldrick.

This morning in Riverstown it was a relegation 6 pointer. in which arrow harps came away with the 3 points on scoreline of 3-2.

Harps came out of the traps early when Steven Willis whipped in a lovely corner for Brian Boyd to head home then mid-way through the half Ben Tuohy whipped in a fine low-ball cross which was met by Brian Boyd again to make 2-0 at half time. but the second Coolaney got a goal back through Cathal Davey then Harps gave away a penalty which was brilliantly saved by Ultan Mc Kenna.

But shortly after Coolaney drew level with a Ciaran Mc Murray special.  Then with 5 minutes to go Karl Mc Kenna drilled in low cross which was met by the on-rushing Ben Tuohy who rattled home the winning goal.

Aughanagh Celtic welcomed Real Tubber to Ballinafad and they play out a 1 – 1 with Johnny Mc Nulty giving Real Tubber the lead on 55 minutes. Sean Bruen rescued a great point for Aughanagh Celtic with 10 minutes remaining in a cracker of a game.

In the Sligo Pallets Premier League Gurteen Celtic have a vice grip on the title hitting 5 goals without reply at home to Valley Rovers. Ross Donovan, Thomas Sweeney, Nathan Dwyer, Ronan Mulligan and Caelan Hunt netting a goal apiece for the incoming Champions who can mathematically still be caught but its coming home to Gurteen barring a disaster. Valley Rovers pushed all the but missing a penalty and having both Dylan Gabbidon and Jack Ozdobinski red carded did little to help their chances.

Glenview Stars put on a blistering display of firepower at Forthill bagging 5 goals and conceding non at home to Ballygawley Celtic. Clive Brennan netting a hat-trick, Lucas Sosa and Jake Drewe with a goal each that leaves Stars in the Top Three on the leader board.

Chaffpool Utd welcomed Benbulben FC to Bunninadden and both loss ground on the front runners despite sharing the spoils. The pool led at the break by the odd goal in 3 with strikes from Oisin Gorman and Eoin Carty. Benbulben scorer Anthony Moylette. The Pool looked to be heading for a win till 2 minutes from fulltime when Dion Mc Caffrey rifled home a glorious goal to snatch a point at the death.

Calry Bohs played out a scoreless draw at Hazelwood against visitors Carrick Town.

Strand Celtic Reserves drew with Kilglass Enniscrone Utd 1 – 1 with Michael Connolly netting the all-important goal for the Town.

In the Connacht Cup 5th Round Renmore at home started the stronger Strand were slow out of the blocks. On the 5th minute Harry Rogers scored a free header in the box. It got worse for Strand after 15 minutes after Renmore were awarded a penalty which Keith Fitzgerald scored from. On the 30th minute Aaron O Boyle pulled one back for Strand with a well taken goal. Just when Strand got a bit of momentum Renmore got a 3rd on the 40th minute thanks to Oran Power. Half time  3-1 to Renmore

Strand started the 2nd half stronger and just couldn’t put the goal in the net. With 15 minutes to go Strand got their 2nd thanks to a Lee Wilson header from a long throw. And in injury time Strand were awarded for their never say die attitude. A well worked move finished by a bullet of a shot from Leo Doherty sent the game to extra time.3-3 Full time.

Renmore started the extra time with a couple of good moves, but Strand dug in and forced the game to penalties. Strand held their nerve and won penalties 6-5 with Renmore hitting the post. A great game of football and on to Last 16
