SFAI U15 Trophy 2022/23
St Patrick's Boys AFC-2 3, Peake Villa Boys 2
Saturday 3 December 2022 The Meadows Graiguecullen (St Pats Boys)
This was a game that was played under perfect conditions. The sun was shining and there was not a breeze to be felt. The game started at a fast pace with both sides having early chances.
Villa scored through Daniel Ryan after about 15 minutes from a well worked passage of play. St. Pat's equalised through John Hendrickson who was outstanding all through the game.
The second half stared at a very fast pace and against the run of play Pat's scored through Jack Corrigan. About 10 minutes later (20 minutes into the 2nd half) Daniel DeSilva scored a cracker of a goal.
Villa tried and tried but could not score until Finbarr Breathnach scored with the last kick of the game. Game ended 2-3 to Pat's.
Best for Peake Villa: Brandon Wade, Jason Patterson and Bobby O'Dowd.
Overall great team performance by St Pat’s with player of match John Hendricken.
SFAI U15 Trophy 2022/23
St Patrick's Boys AFC 4, St Michaels 0
Saturday 3 December 2022 The Meadows Graiguecullen (St Pats Boys)
St. Pats march on to the next round with an excellent squad performance against a very good St Michaels team. The first 20 mins both teams cancelled each other out but then Pats started to take control with Mauro Perez and Zak Hernan winning the battles in midfield. Mark Buggy looked very dangerous throughout the whole game but the 1st half ended 0-0.
Second half started and Pats found themselves in front with great work down the left from Mikey Whelan and David McDonald. David crossed a great ball into the St. Michael's box and was met by the head of Brian Dos Santos to make it a well-deserved 1-0 lead.
After the goal Pats were in complete control and soon added a second when Warrith Oyeniyi finished off a great move to make it 2-0. 5 mins later Jamie Hyland finished a great shot into the Michael's goal to make it 3-0. Shane Gurry added a 4th goal with a brilliant long range shot to beat the Michael's keeper.
Eanna Dunican was causing a lot of trouble down the right and was unlucky on a number of occasions not to get a goal. Michaels tried their best to get into the game but on the day the St. Pats players were too strong. 4-0 final score.
Brilliant squad performance from all the St. Pats players with Mark Buggy, Mauro Perez, Mikey Whelan and Zak Hernan all standing out.
SFAI U13 Trophy 2022/23
Burrin Celtic AFC 3, Clerihan 2
Saturday 3 December 2022 The Valley Ballon (Burrin Celtic)
In the last 16 tie in the South East region of the SFAI trophy, Burrin came out on top after extra time. Both teams played some really good football and made it a very enjoyable match to watch.
Clerihan scored their first against the run of play and defended well, forcing Burrin to play the ball backwards a number of times. Burrin had enough chances to win this game but it just didn't go their way in the first half after hitting the post a few times, and the Clerihan keeper having a brilliant game. Clerihan scored their second just before half time and started to look more comfortable. Half-time score 1-2 to Clerihan.
Burrin came out a different team in the second half as super sub Tadhg Campbell scored twice to bring the game to extra time. Extra time was completely dominated by the home side. Ryan Abbey looked like he was going to score a goal from outside the box after connecting perfectly to rifle a volley toward goal but it just went over the bar. The winner came from Bobby Finn after a scramble in the box and he slotted it home to progress Burrin with a 3-2 win.
Best for Burrin Celtic we're Colm Donald, Daire Nolan, Robbie Kelliher and Glen Cantwell.
Under 15 League Division 1 2022/23
Hanover Harps AFC 5, St Joseph's AFC 0
Saturday 3 December 2022 The Plots (Hanover Harps)
Hanover welcomed St Josephs to The Plots for an 11:15am kick off, the game started well with both teams playing some great soccer but it was Hanover who took the lead with a lovely free kick taken by Alex O Rock who put it in the back of the net.
St Josephs applied a lot of pressure but the Harps defence stood strong and keep Joey's at bay. Hanover got a corner and Axel O Rock crossed the ball to find the head of Sean Hayden who put it past the keeper. Hanover got another goal from Gael O Rock shortly before half time when he headed a ball from the cross of TJ Brennan to put the Harps 3-0 up at halftime.
St Josephs started the second half the better team but couldn't get through the defence of Hanover who stood strong. On the 50th min a long ball from John Corcoran saw the left foot of TJ Brennan volley home a well taken goal. Hanover got into the game and started to play some great soccer and were awarded with a well-deserved 5-0 win.
Best for Hanover were Gael O Rock, Sean Hayden and Peter Lynch.
It was an all-round team performance for St Joseph's
Under 15 League Division 2 2022/23
Ballymurphy Celtic 3, Vale Wanderers AFC 2
Saturday 3 December 2022 Borris Vocational School
A good game between two well matched teams, the first half saw Vale go into a 2-0 lead through a fine strike from Fionn Ford from 18 yards out and Barteck Gutrzko with the 2nd from a corner. Bally never really were in the game in the first half. HT 0-2 to Vale.
It was a completely different Bally performance in the second half who responded with a well taken goal from Adam Joyce and a superb free kick from Eoin Condren on 56 mins to draw level. Bally put on relentless pressure and in the dying minutes Conor Walsh put Jake Fitzpatrick through and Fitz made no mistake putting it into the bottom corner to win the game for the Bally boys.
Best for Bally were Thomas Sheehan, Tom Kehoe and Darragh Coleman.
Best for Vale were Eanna Coady and Conor Twomey.
Under 15 League Division 2 2022/23
St Anne's AFC 3, Slaney Rovers AFC 2
Saturday 3 December 2022 Ballylinan (St Annes)
First time in league for St Annes and Slaney to meet and what a game it was. St Annes started strong with a good ball down the wing to Eoin Kelly but it scrambled across the box and was cleared.
Both teams were trying to get a foothold in the game but it was Slaney who hit the back of the net first. Slaney piled on the pressure but St Annes stayed strong and had a few chances with the ball in the Slaney box but they couldn’t get the ball in the back of the net. First half ended 0-1 in Slaney’s favour.
Second half started and Annes were trying to rally when a ball out on the wing from Oisin Kelly saw Roan Brennan go on a run to be taken down and be awarded a penlty. Roan Brennan made no mistake in putting it away.
Annes tails were up and they tried hard with some great passing and got awarded another penalty, Roan Brennan stepped up again to hit the back of the net but this time the ref disallowed the goal due to a mix up with a player running into the box.
But Annes never gave up and a ball to the waiting Sean Rowan saw him hit top corner to make it 2 1. Annes were flying at this stage but Slaney caught them on the break but the Annes keeper made a great save and set up the next goal with a long ball to Dinh Kaye who chipped the keeper. The game wasn’t over yet as Slaney’s efforts were then rewarded with a goal to reduce the deficit.
The game was now all to play for and Slaney pushed hard but Annes stayed strong in defence. Annes were to be hit with another blow as a St Annes player received a second yellow and was sent to the line. Slaney’s tales were up and Annes were down to 10 men but the saints fought hard to see the game out and leave with the 3 points. This game had everything and was very enjoyable.
All for Slaney played well.
Some stand out players for St Annes were Andrew Knowles, Eolann Maguire, Oisin Kelly, Sean Rowan, Glen Flannery to name a few but over all a great St Annes performance from the whole team.
Under 13 League Division One 2022/23
Baltinglass Town AFC 3, Crettyard United AFC 4
Saturday 3 December 2022 Parkmore Baltinglass
Baltinglass had a visit from Crettyard on a cold morning in Parkmore, a lighting game with lots of goals for both sides. Crettyard opened the scoring early on but a free kick from Baltinglass' Josh Barry was quick to level the scoring.
A great battle in midfield gave Crettyard the lead once again but Baltinglass' Jayden Musinguzi was on form upfront scoring two goals within 5 minutes. Baltinglass couldn't clear a Crettyard corner leading to yet another equaliser and at the half both teams were on 3 goals each.
The second half was a great battle across the pitch, both teams having chances that just wouldn't fall for them. Crettyard were awarded a penalty late on but failed to take the chance. A dangerous cross from Crettyard down the left led to a late run that gave them the winner in the last two minutes of play. Baltinglass 3 Crettyard 4.
Best for Baltinglass were Garreth Doyle, Josh Furlong and Noah Farrell
Under 13 League Division One 2022/23
Ballymurphy Celtic 0, Killeshin AFC 0
Saturday 3 December 2022 Borris Vocational School
This was a very tight game between two good teams. Bally started better and were denied on 5 mins when James Flood rounded the keeper only to be brought down but no penalty was awarded. Bally pressed hard for the remainder of the half but Killeshin stood firm. HT 0-0.
It was a fairly dour second half with both teams having half chances with Bally slightly shading proceedings but just could not score. Final Score 0-0.
Best for Bally were James Flood, Dian Foley and Noah Scully.
Killeshin put in a very good all round team performance.
Under 13 League Division One 2022/23
Vale Wanderers AFC 0, Hanover Harps AFC 5
Saturday 3 December 2022 Superbowl Leighlinbridge (Vale Wanderers)
The action in this game started quickly with Hanover being awarded a penalty in the first 5 mins for a Vale hand-ball in the box.
A well struck shot went narrowly wide of the left post and Vale were let off the hook. This was followed by a period of sustained Hanover pressure and despite some determined defending from Vale, it resulted in the opening goal of the game for Hanover after 15 mins. Despite an even enough second quarter, Hanover scored another goal just before half time. Half-time score 0-2 to Hanover.
At 2-0 it was still all to play for, but Vale struggled to cope with Hanover pressure immediately after the break and a Vale own goal from a Hanover corner and another fine Hanover strike within 2 mins of each other killed this game off as a contest. Vale showed some fight for the next 20 mins, but the last 10 mins saw legs tire in an under strength Vale team with a number of first team players missing, and Hanover ran out comfortable 5-0 winners.
This was good win for Hanover who showed some fine attacking qualities alongside a solid defence.
Scorers for Hanover: Owen Fitzharris, Nathaniel Jakubiec, Andrian Robu, Bobby Mulhearne and Charlie McHugh.
Best for Hanover: Mael O'Rock, Senan Sheehan and Cian Howard.
Best for Vale: Callum Byrne, Comhal Murphy and Ódhran Noctor.
Special mention to Vale's Ethan Chambers and Frankie Doyle, two U12s who went straight from the Div2 match to the Div1 game to allow some players get a breather.

Saturday 3 December 2022 Augha Road Nurney
Kian Minchin started this match off with a goal inside the 1st minute. Twenty minutes later Natalia Deka showed her class when she brilliantly rounded the goalkeeper and made it 2-0. Nurney would go on to get 3 more in the 1st half, Finn Lawler getting 1 and Natalia Deka and Kian Minchin getting 1 more each. 5-0 to Nurney at the break.
Vale started the second half well and very quickly got a goal back with a fine finish from Bill Hayden. But unfortunately that was as good as it got and Nurney ran out the eventual winners.of the game.
Under 16 Girls League 2022/23
St Fiacc's AFC 4, Ballymurphy Celtic 2
Saturday 3 December 2022 St Patricks College via George bernard shaw
St Fiaccs used the full size of their squad for this fixture with some girls rested for an academy game but still came out on top in this tight game against a determined Ballymurphy.
St Fiaccs started the best with Ashlee Smith and Ella Matthews going close following great work from Leah Nelson on both occasions but were denied by Aine Doyle in the Ballymurphy goal. It wasn’t until the 23rd minute that Fiaccs eventually broke the deadlock following a great pass in the Fiaccs midfield to play in Ashlee Smith who rounded the keeper to score.
Five minutes later Ballymurphy were awarded a penalty which Mia O Neill converted. St Fiaccs again took hold of the game and right on halftime went back in front through Ashlee Smith with her second of the game. Half-time score 2-1.
Ballymurphy started the second half slightly quicker and Grainne Grennan equalised deservedly. After this St Fiaccs started applying pressure to the Ballymurphy goal and created some great chances but just couldn't find the back of the net until Abbey O Shea who was just after coming on to the field scored to give St Fiaccs the lead for the third time. As Ballymurphy pushed forward again Hanna Kerfah found herself in space to seal the game for the home side. Final score 4-2 to St Fiaccs.
Orla Keating, Leah Cummins Nelson and Ashlee Smith stood out for St Fiaccs.
While Aine Doyle, Grainne Grennan and Rachel Kennedy were best for Ballymurphy.

Vale Wanderers AFC 0, Killeshin AFC 5
Saturday 3 December 2022 Superbowl Leighlinbridge (Vale Wanderers)
Match of the Week – 03/12/22
U12 Girls League – Referee Paul Hunston.
Vale Wanderers AFC 0 – 5 Killeshin AFC.
On a cool but dry morning Vale entertained Killeshin in the Superbowl in Leighlinbridge.
Killeshin were quick out of the blocks when Laura Malone beat a Vale defender and crossed into the six yard box, but there was nobody there to take advantage of the opportunity.
Vale’s Abigale O’Gorman made a great run, but the ball went out of play and the chance went a beggng.
Laura Malone shot over from distance with a speculative shot as Killeshin continued to dominate the play.
Vale’s Keeper – Charlotte Earl made a great save from Laura Malone and from the ensuing corner – she over-kicked and the ball beat everybody.
Laura Malone fired in a shot, but it went just wide and in these early minutes she was by far and away the most noticeable player on view and was central to all that was good by Killeshin.
A good run and cross by Killeshin’s - Niamh Egan but again the ball was given away by a poor cross and little was being seen of Killeshin in an attacking sense.
Vale’s - Aleisha Nolan was prominent, along with Sinead Sibanda, Abigale O’Gorman and Bella Skedgewell and for Killeshin – it was Sarah Malone, Niamh Egan, Eimear Pender and Molly O’Reilly who stood out.
A cross by Laura Malone hit the post and the ball re-bounded out to Niamh Egan and she popped the ball into the bottom corner of the net for 0 – 1.
Immediately after, Laura Malone went on a run and she slotted the ball into the net to make it 0 – 2.
Laura Malone took a corner and it hit the side netting and Killeshin were always on top, but Vale were battling hard to thwart them.
Once again Laura Malone shot but her initial shot was blocked and it was deflected into the net for 0 – 3 and that was the score at the interval.
Killeshin attacked straight from the kick – off and a great run by Eimear Pender ended when she was stopped in her tracks by a good tackle by Sophie Rochford.
Killeshin won three corners in succession as they put pressure on Vale, but nothing came of them.
Kileshin’s Molly O’Reilly shot through a sea of legs to make the score 0 – 5 and shortly after Killeshin’s Sarah Milton shot home from close range and into the roof of the net, which finished off the scoring.
Laura Malone – was the outstanding player of the match and she was ably assisted by Niamh Egan, Eimear Pender and Molly O’Reilly, whilst standing out for Vale were Alisha Nolan, Sinead Sibanda, Bella Skedgewell and Abigale O’Gorman.

St Fiaccs started very brightly and great build up play from Cara Harris and Aoife O'Shea led to Evie Stynes getting through on goal and giving Fiaccs an early lead.
Sienna Smith and Lily Monahan were linking up well and causing problems for the Ballymurphy defence. Stynes scored her second soon after to give Fiaccs a 2-0 lead when she hit a powerful shot from the edge of the box.
A short corner resulted in Monahan putting in a great cross and Harris had a great chance at the back post but failed to score. Ballymurphy were battling hard and getting girls forward but Ellie Maher and the Hernan twins, Lexi and Holly were proving difficult to get past in the Fiaccs defence.
The Ballymurphy keeper then made a string of superb saves, two from Monahan one from O'Shea and the save of the game after great play down the right from Holly Hernan and O'Shea resulted in Stynes putting in a great cross and Smith arrived in the box and hit a great left foot half-volley that was superbly tipped over the bar by the Ballymurphy keeper.
The second half was very competitive as well with Fiaccs on the attack again right from the start. Lyla Smith and Maisy Aylward were linking up on the right-hand side and getting some great crosses in with Stynes and Monahan lurking in the box to try and score.
Monahan had a few great chances and eventually got on the scoresheet with a great strike from the edge of the box. Aoibhinn Maye and O'Shea were linking up well on the left for Fiaccs and O'Shea was getting a lot of possession and playing good balls forward. Monahan got her second of the game when she went on a dribbling run through the defence and slotted past the keeper.
Ballymurphy were pushing players forward and starting to look like they might get in behind the Fiaccs defence but Aylward and Maher were making it difficult to get near the Fiaccs goal.
Heidi Buggy who had started in goal but was now playing in attack, put in some great crosses and went very close to scoring as did Aylward with a shot from the edge of the box. The game finished without any more goals with Fiaccs taking the 3 points.
Best for Fiaccs were Ellie Maher, Sienna Smith, Cara Harris and Lily Monahan
