Sfal U15 Trophy 2022/23

St Patrick’s Boys AFC     2,   Bridge United      0,

Saturday 28 January 2023  The Meadows Graiguecullen (St Pat’s Boys)

Bridge United were the visitors today to the Meadows. The first 10 mins of the game Bridge Utd had a great chance to take the lead with a long range shot that nearly lobbed Luke Dooley in the Pats goal.

Only for an absolutely brilliant save by Luke the visitors would have found themselves in front. Pats now started to play fast passing football and created numerous chances.

Ruari McEvoy in the center of the Pats defence was clearing everything that came his way. Some brilliant play by Zak Hernan and Shane Gurhy soon saw Pats take the lead when Shane Gurhy's long range shot ended up in the Bridge Utds net. Half time and Pats deserved the 1-0 lead.

A number of changes in the second half saw Emily Kelly in midfield picking out some great passes to Brian Dos Santos who was a torn in the Utds defence all game. It wasn't long before Brian found Kacper Zarzycki to make it 2-0. Pats were now in complete control and created chance after chance. F/T St Patrick’s Boys 2-0 Bridge United.

A great squad performance by St Pats with Mauro Perez, Shane Gurhy, Ruari McEvoy & Brian Dos Santos all standing out.

Sfal U15 Trophy 2022/23

St Patrick’s Boys AFC-2     0,   Gorey Rangers      5,

Saturday 28 January 2023  The Meadows Graiguecullen (St Pat’s Boys)

This was a game that was played under perfect conditions. The sun was shining, and the weather was mild. Gorey started the game very well and were 0-1 up after 11 minutes.

The second goal came from a corner about 4 minutes after the 1st. Two more were scored on the 25th and 27th minutes. H/T score St Patrick’s 0-1 Gorey Rangers.

St. Pat's started the better in the second half but were punished from a quick counterattack as they pushed for a goal in the 17th minute. Four goals within 6 minutes killed Pat's and ended all resistance. Man of the Match was St. Patrick's Boys AFC goalkeeper Nicolas Sabando without whom the scoreline could have been much, much more.

Best of luck to Gorey Rangers in the next round and beware to the team who they have to play next. Excellent team with very strong substitutes.

Scorers for Gorey - Alex Devereux. Cian Keating. Stephen Murphy, Richard Levingston, Karim Fulham.

Saturday 28 January 2023

Hanover went to Waterford to play Southend and what a game, Hanover applied all the pressure but could not find the back of the net, both teams did set plays but neither one could find the net.

The first goal did come when Southend’s no7 made a run and got on a through ball and slotted it home to give the home side the advantage  Half time Southend 1. Hanover 0

Hanover started the game very much the same as the first and were unfortunate not to get a goal when Leon FitzGerald’s shot hit the cross bar and TJ Brennan effort to head it back in only to hit the cross bar again. Hanover got a free outside the box and Axel O Rock stood up to take his shot that went left and wide.

Shortly after Dylan Farrell made a great run up the left wing and after beating the defender his shot hit the cross bar. Hanover finally got the goal when Leon Fitzgerald got on a header from a TJ Brennan cross to put the ball in the net.
Just before full time Southend’s no7 again made a run and shot the ball which found the top left of the goal full time whistle Southend 2 Hanover 1.

Hanover Harps AFC     3,   Freebooters      4,

Saturday 28 January 2023  The Plots (Hanover Harps)

Hanover met Freebooters of Kilkenny on what started out as a wet morning in this SFAI National Cup Under 14 encounter at the Plots.

Hanover started on the front foot with some great attacking play, finally getting their rewards from a great pinpoint pass from Adam Haughney into Alex Mazur who put the ball in the net with an exceptional finish in the 26th minute.

Only one minute later with another great team move from Hanover, Timmy Adeleye crossed in an amazing ball with Alex Broderick making sure of it with a header into the net. Half time 2-0 to Hanover.

This was a game of two halves with Freebooters on the front foot in the second half. They scored a goal straight off to get back in the game and within minutes it was 2-2. It was a true Trophy game with both teams giving it everything.

It was Freebooters that scored the next goal to go 3-2 up but Hanover were not giving up and with an amazing free kick from Charlie McHugh to reach Brian Louw who scored a cracker of a header and it was a draw again with only minutes to full time. In the dying minutes Freebooters snatched the winning goal to end the game 4-3.

With an outstanding team performance from Hanover Harps it was Alex Mazur, Timmy Adeleye, Brian Louw and Adam Haughney that were a real thorn in the Freebooters side today.

Goal scorers for Hanover were Alex Mazur, Alex Broderick and Brian Louw.

Hanover Harps AFC     1,   Crettyrd United AFC     1,

Saturday 28 January 2023  The Plots (Hanover Harps)

Hanover Harps AFC welcomed Crettyard United AFC at home this afternoon in their first meet in the competition.

The game started off well for both teams in a tightly contested first half. However the visitors took the lead in the game when Aaron Brennan beat the off side trap to open the scoring with a goal in last few minutes of the first half.

Hanover had a great chance to level the game very shortly after with a shot on goal by Nathaniel Jakubiec just skipping left of the post. Crettyard started off well in the second half with a few chances to extend the lead but Hanover upped their tempo and drove hard against the visitors.

The home side were unlucky a couple of times not to get a score, being denied by the great skills of the Crettyard goal keeper Darragh Brennan. Final score Slaney Rovers 0-2 Nurney Villa.

Vale Wanderers AFC     3,   Parkville United AFC     3,

Saturday 28 January 2023  Superbowl Leighlinbridge (Vale Wanderers)

The game plan from both teams was evident from kick-off, with the ball being worked up the field quickly by both teams

. Vale were first to score with a penalty inside the first 15 minutes for a handball in the penalty area, which Ethan Chambers duly converted.

This was quickly followed by a score from a corner which Bob Phelan put in the back of the net to make it 2-0 to Vale. Parkville got more into the game from here and scored 2 goals in quick succession before half-time, from Max O'Donoghue and Cody Doyle. The halftime score Vale 2-2 Parkville.

The second half was again end to end with both goalkeepers being worked. Vale's biggest threat was Romeo Sithebe but Parkville's over the top ball and through ball continued to work Vale's defence hard. Parkville got their third 10 minutes into the second half through Max O'Donoghue which took them into the lead for the first time in the game.

As the game continued it looked like the spoils were going to be Parkville's but then in the closing minutes Vale were awarded a free kick about 6 yards outside the penalty area which was taken by Romeo Sithebe who slotted it into the left-hand side of the goal, out of the reach of Parkville's keeper.

U16 Girls League  2022/23

Vale Wanderers AFC     4,   Killeshin AFC     0,

Saturday 28 January 2023  Superbowl Leighlinbridge (Vale Wanderers

The Super Bowl, Leighlinbridge was the venue for this girls U16's league match between Vale Wanderers and Killeshin.

Big changes to both line ups, meant the game started slow but Vale pressurized the ball deep in the Killeshin half and Kate Burke was unlucky not to score.

Vale found it hard to beat the very impressive Aoife Mullins in the Killeshin goal, who was outstanding throughout the game. With a few minutes left in the 1st half, Vale's dominance was rewarded, when, after an indirect free kick, which was saved, Zoe Clarke mopped up the rebound and put Vale 1-0 up at half time.

At the start of the 2nd half, Vale made some changes, but still Killeshin showed great spirit and frustrated the Vale girls. Katie O' Reilly was putting in a very solid display in the backs for Killeshin.

Eventually Vale doubled their score when Kate Burke found the ball in the box and got it over the line. After that, the game opened up for Vale and they started to pass the ball around nicely with Carla Byrne impressing down the right.

Kate Burke's 2nd of the match came about after she latched onto a long ball out of the Killeshin defence, brought the ball forward and slotted it away nicely into the right bottom corner. Vale made it 4 after some nice play down the right and Kate Burke placed a lovely lob over the Killeshin keeper to get her hat trick for Vale.

The game ended 4-0 to the Vale girls.
Killeshin put in a very valiant performance and the signs are there that they are improving from game to game.

Best for Killeshin included Aoife Mullin, Katie O' Reilly and Katie Kehoe.

Best for Vale were Zoe Clarke, Sarah Devine, Kate Burke and Carla Byrne.

While Abi Gilligan and Kate Barrett(goal scorer) stood out for the visitors.

Girls u14 SFAI  Cup  2022/23

St Fiacc’s AFC     2,   Ballingarry     1,

Saturday 28 January 2023  St Patrick’s College, Carlow

A slow start saw St Fiaccs fall behind early to a strong Ballingarry team who travelled up from Limerick.

St Fiaccs were slow to clear their backline and were punished when the ball spilled out and was knocked in the back of the net.

It didn’t take St Fiaccs long to get their heads back on the game though and they played some great soccer with Ali O Connor and Jasmine Doyle running the midfield.

Halftime 0 1
St Fiaccs won a free kick early in the second half and Katelyn Moran struck a great shot which was parried by the keeper but the ever-reliable Ashlee Smith was on hand to poke home the equaliser.

Ballingarry came back into the game and without Nicole Osborne in the Fiaccs goals, could have found themselves behind after Ballingarry created 3 good chances.

Fiaccs kept the pressure on Ballingarry after this and scored a breakaway goal following some great counter attacking play involving Ciara Rooney, Leah Nelson and Ali O Connor to give Fiaccs a 2-1 win and a place in the last 16 in the SFAI competition.

Best for St Fiaccs were Katelyn Moran, Jasmine Doyle and Nicole Osborne.
