HANOVER ADVANCE TO SFAI LAST 32

HANOVER ADVANCE TO SFAI LAST 32

Hanover Harps AFC      4,     v Crettyard United AFC      1,

Saturday 7 January 2023      The Plots (Hanover Harps)

Hanover made it through to the last 32 in the SFAI National Cup after a hard-fought win v Crettyard in difficult conditions in The Plots on Saturday morning.

Heavy rain at kick-off time made passing difficult and set pieces seemed the most likely way for either team to break the deadlock.

Hanover were unlucky from a couple of corners while Crettyard drew a good save from Ewan Breen from a free kick.

On the half hour the home team were awarded a free kick and Aaron Cunningham Burke curled it around the wall to put Hanover in front. Score remained 1-0 at the break.

Crettyard had the wind behind them in the second half and were pressing for an equaliser when Hanover broke and Daragh Corcoran doubled the lead with a good strike over the keeper.

Five minutes later Aaron Cunningham Burke made it 3-0 with an improvised finish with his knee over the onrushing keeper.

With ten minutes to go Crettyard gave themselves a lifeline with a well worked team goal. Bailee Cooney settled home nerves with a clever free kick under the wall in the 76th minute. Final score Hanover 4 Crettyard 1

A good team performance from Crettyard while for Hanover, Dermot Lawlor, Sam McHugh, Ross Moran and Leon Fitzgerald were prominent.

SFAI U12 Cup 2022/23

Hanover Harps AFC      1,     v Dungarvan Utd      4,

Saturday 7 January 2023      The Plots (Hanover Harps)

The game started evenly with both teams applying the pressure but on the 15th minute Lee Duggan put Dungarvan 1-0 up. The game was very even up to halftime. Halftime Hanover 0 Dungarvan 1

The start of the second half Hanover applied a bit of early pressure to get back on even terms but on the 40 minute Hanover were caught on the break when James Ferncombe put Dungarvan 2-0 up.
This rocked Hanover and 2 minutes later from a free kick Dungarvan went 3-0 up with Hanover putting the ball into their own net.

Hanover kept trying to get back into the game and missed a couple of half chances, but on the 55th  minute Dungarvan wrapped the game up when Lee Duggan scored his 2nd and Dungarvan 4th. Hanover scored a consultation goal from Tìre Adeleye. Full-time Hanover 1 Dungarvan 4

Best for Hanover Ethan Walker, Ross Geoghnan and Rian Carroll.

Best for Dungarvan were Lee Duggan and James Ferncombe.

SFAI U14 Trophy 2022/23

Crettyard United AFC       2,     v Tramore      4,

Saturday 7 January 2023      Crettyard United

Crettyard v Tramore was a good game held in tough conditions, very blustery in Crettyard. Tramore with the breeze in their backs took an early lead with some good play, Cretty had there backs to the wall for the early exchanges and Tramore took advantage down the left hand side and scored their second goal for a 2-0 lead. Cretty were trying hard to get back into it but again were caught on the break and Tramore made it 3-0 with a few minutes remaining.

Cretty came back strong in the last few minutes with outstanding play from Michael Brennan who broke down a good attack from Tramore and played through Aaron Brennan who was taken down for a penalty. Fionnan Brennan made no mistake from the spot blasting it into the roof of the net for 3-1 at half time to Tramore

Second half Cretty came out on the front foot and controlled the game putting Tramore under pressure all over the pitch and made it 3-2 when a great corner from Aaron Brennan was headed onto the crossbar by Cian O Sullivan with the rebound put into the net by Darragh Brennan. Cretty kept pushing for the equaliser but were caught on the break and Tramore made it 4-2 with 5 minutes remaining.

But Cretty never gave up and drove forward again for Cian O Sullivan to score a great goal from 25 yards into the top corner with seconds remaining. Cretty had one last chance but were denied by a good save from the Tramore keeper to deny them. Best of luck to Tramore who move into the next round.

Best for Cretty: Michael Brennan who was their man of the match with an outstanding display, Danial Lawlor and Jake Keating.

SFAI U12 Trophy 2022/23

Crettyard United AFC       2,     Campile      1,

Saturday 7 January 2023      Crettyard United

Crettyard played host to Campile in the SfaiTtrophy in an excellent game. Both teams went for attacking football from the start and there was lots of goal chances early on and some great defending from both teams. Campile made their pressure count after 15 minutes and opened the scoring with a great long-distance shot.

Crettyard kept the heads up and the attacking football going and Finn Kelly made some great chances for himself, then a great ball down the centre from Dan Curran found Kelly again and he scored a great goal to have the game level 1-1 at half time.

The second half started like the first and both teams had great chances to take the lead only for some great defending,  especially from Darragh Curran at centre back.  The winning goal eventually game when Adam Rowan ran on to a long ball over the top and unleashed a left footed shot to the roof of the net.

The drama wasn't over there, when with 3 minutes left Campile were in on goal but Aidan Rowan made an unbelievable save to  win the game for Crettyard.  Final Score Crettyard United 2-1 Campile.

Campile had some excellent players all over the field and best for Crettyard were Sean Knowles,  Harry Gorman and Eoin Dowling.

Under 16 League 2022/23

St Patrick’s Boys AFC Green     5,     v St Joseph’s AFC Blue     1,

Saturday 7 January 2023      The Meadows Graiguecullen (St Pats Boys)

An early kick of in the Meadows saw Pats get off to a great start with 2 quick goals from Zak Hernan & Eoin White in the first 10 mins. Joseph's never really recovered from the quick goals and soon found themselves 3-0 down with a very good goal from Scott Lawler.

Jay Doran was causing a lot of problems for Joseph's on the right and produced some brilliant crosses to add 2 more goals from Sean Donlan and Fionn Doyle. St Joseph's never gave up and produced some good football but Eoin White in the Pats defence was on top form and defended very well throughout the whole game. Jay Doran was still causing a lot of trouble down the right producing some great crosses for his team-mates. First half finished 5-0.

Second half was a lot more even with Joseph's throwing everything at Pats and creating some good chances and got a well-deserved goal to make the final score 5-1.

All the Joseph's players gave it everything but on the day Pats were too strong.

Best for Pats were Eoin White, Sean Donlon, Scott Lawler & Robbie Roycroft.

Under 16 League 2022/23

Ballymurphy Celtic AFC      1,     v St Joseph’s AFC      1,

Saturday 7 January 2023      Ballymurphy

This was a highly competitive match between two evenly matched teams in Borris Vocational school this morning. Joeys took a deserved lead on 15 miutes with a well taken goal and pushed hard for a second. Bally grew into the game gradually and began to get on top. Just before half time they got a deserved equaliser through Kian Foley. HT 1-1

There were loads of chances in the second half with Ballymurphy unlucky not to convert one which would have given them the points but they had to settle for a draw, Final Score Ballymurphy Celtic 1-1 St Joseph’s.

Best for Bally were Dylan Doyle, Kyle Cummins and Kian Foley.

St Josephs put in an all-round good team performance.

Under 14 League Division Two 2022/23

Saturday 7 January 2023      Augha Road Nurney

A strong Hanover Harps team took all 3 points home this morning when they came out to Nurrney for this Division 2 Under 14 game.  The away side started strongly and 3 first half goals gave them a comfortable cushion at half time.

Nurney pulled one back through Kian Minchin after some good work from Adam Jeffares.  Hanover added 2 more second half goals to leave the final score line Nurney Villa 1-5 Hanover Harps.

Apart from Minchin and Jeffares best for Nurney were Eli Fleming, Brandon Searson and goalkeeper Noah Doyle.

Goal scorers for Hanover were Andrian  Robu, Shay O'Grady and Owen Fitzharris.

Under 14 League Division Two 2022/23

Vale Wanderers AFC      2,     v Killeshin AFC      3,

Saturday 7 January 2023      Superbowl Leighlinbridge (Vale Wanderers)

This match was a great game for the neutrals with two closely matched teams playing some lovely football and giving maximum effort. There was very little to separate these sides in the first half, with both sides hitting the woodwork, but a header from Killeshin's James McGrath after 20 mins put Killeshin in front before the break. Halftime Vale 0 Killeshin 1.

Vale didn’t drop their heads and stayed in the fight and came out strong in the second half and a long-range effort from Jason Kelly levelled up the match early in the second half. This was followed by a break by Killeshin resulting in Luke Kehoe getting on the end of a through ball to put Killeshin back in front 1-2.

Credit to Vale they recovered well and deserved the equaliser through a free from outside the box by Diarmuid Redmond. It stayed at 2-2 for much of the second half until a late winner by Cian McNamara secured the points for Killeshin.

Vale came agonisingly close to levelling it up in the dying moments when a Shaun Sibanda effort crept narrowly wide of the right post. Final Score Vale Wandereers 2-3 Killeshin.

A great game played in good spirit made for a nailbiting finish and both teams deserve a lot of credit for their efforts.

Scorers for Vale - Jason Kelly & Diarmuid Redmond

Best for Vale were Conor Stanley, James Aughney and Shaun Sibanda.

Scorers for Killeshin - James McGrath, Luke Kehoe and Cian McNamara.

Best for Killeshin were Cormac Clifford, Ciara Milton and Cian McNamara.

Under 14 League Division Two 2022/23

St Anne’s AFC      1,     v St Patrick’s Boys AFC      1,

Saturday 7 January 2023      Ballylinan (St Anne’s)

St Anne's welcomed St Pat's this afternoon to a highly competitive game in blustery conditions. The teams were evenly matched throughout the game. St Pat's were first to go on the break with a great run down the left wing and crossed it in to find their striker but Anne's defence held strong to clear the ball out.

Both teams had some chances but neither keeper at this stage had much to do. Pats sent a long ball forward and Marcin Pawlak took advantage of a mistake made by Anne's keeper and put St Pat's in front. 1-0 at halftime.

St Anne's came out in the second half with a bit more fight in them and took advantage of the wind playing a few balls over the top catching out the Pat's defence, but Pat's keeper was on form and kept the goals at bay.

St Anne's kept the pressure on St Pat's and kept coming at them which ended with Anne's getting a corner, with a great cross put in from Colm Lynch who found the head of Michael Hanrahan who was unlucky not to find the back of the net.

St Anne's Colm Lynch got on the ball outside the box and took a strike which bounced awkwardly and caught Pat's keeper out and St Anne's were back level in the game.
Both teams played well until the final whistle and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Goal Scorer St Anne's - Colm Lynch.

Best for St Anne's - Michael Hanrahan, Cian Murphy, Will Duffy.

Goal Scorer St Pat's - Marcin Pawlak.

Best for St Pat's - Maksym Gorczca, Mikey Hand.

Nurney Villa AFC      0,     v Burrin Celtic AFC      4,

Saturday 7 January 2023      Augha Road Nurney

Good to be back after the weather postponed fixtures.  Excuse the cliche but this was probably a game of two halves. The teams were nip and tuck until half time where it was 0-0 and Burrin Celtic pulled away to win 4-0 by the end.

Both sides were playing an entertaining passing game. Both keepers were on their toes. In the first half Nurney competed well and had some good passages of play. Both defences remained solid.

In the second half Burrin got the breakthrough via Ciaran Redmond’s drilled shot. Burrin were getting the upper hand and goals from Glen Cantwell, Senan Finn and Joshua Smithers O'Connor followed towards the end. Final score Nurney 0-4 Burrin

Nurney battled well, and never gave up. Best for them were Shane Glynn and Cillian Murphy in midfield and Liam Nolan in goal.

For Burrin the backs played well, in midfield Senan Finn and Josh Byrne played well with Glenn Cantwell always a threat going forward.

Under 12 League Division Three 2022/23

Vale Wanderers AFC      5,     v St Anne’s AFC      0,

Saturday 7 January 2023      Superbowl Leighlinbridge (Vale Wanderers)

The game got off to a good start with a very competitive first half. Vale took the lead when Frankie Doyle broke through to slot the ball into the bottom corner.

St Annes keeper Fionn Mc Guinness pulled off some good saves before Vale doubled their lead before the break with a super strike by Ethan Chambers. Halftime score 2-0 to Vale.

Vale had the wind in the second half and capitalised on it with Frankie Doyle passed the ball for Jake Brennan to make it 3:0. Vale were starting to make the most of their possession and Ruairí Farrell finished a good move after some great play from Conor Ryan.

Vale wrapped up the game with a second for Ethan Chambers to make it 5:0 at the end.

St Annes battled hard throughout the game with some standout players being Fionn Mc Guinness in the goal, Molly Mc Grath in midfield and Sean O Sullivan up front who never gave up.

For Vale some excellent performances with Breda Rochford, Conor Corcoran and Jake Brennan all putting in a great shift .

Goals for Vale:  Frankie Doyle, Ethan Chamber (2),  Jake Brennan and Ruairí Farrell.

Under 12 League Division Three 2022/23

Ballymurphy Celtic AFC      4,     v Kilree Celtic AFC      3,

Saturday 7 January 2023      Hawkins Lane Tullow(Parkville United)

On a bright and blustery Saturday afternoon Ballymurphy Celtic welcomed Kilree Celtic for a local derby with the added spice of it being a top of the table clash. Ballymurphy, playing with the wind, were 1-0 up within 5 minutes. Danny Jordan picked up the ball on the right flank, with some clever footwork he created some space for the cross.

Picking out Tom Coleman on the back post who calmly slotted the ball into the open net. Bally grabbed their 2nd on 11 minutes after a Rian Fitzpatrick corner. Ruairi O'Brien timed his run perfectly and headed the ball goalward only for it to be blocked down.

The ball fell to Ruairi again who caught it on the half volley and the ball rifled into the roof of the net. Bally should have been 3 then 4 up on 15 and 17 minutes respectively.

A penalty awarded on 15 minutes had to be retaken. The Kilree keeper saving both. Another penalty on 17 minutes was missed, a balloon over the bar. The remainder of the first half was a stalemate. 2-0 to Ballymurphy at half time.

The second half saw Kilree with the wind at their backs, really come into the game. Fiacc O'Rourke dragged Kilree back into the game on 35 minutes. A free kick awarded to Kilree on their left side. Fiacc got Kilrees 1st with a rasper of a shot, too much pace for the Bally keeper to hold. The next 10 minutes was all Kilree. Attack after attack were expertly repelled by Billy Dalton and the rest of the Ballymurphy defence. Against the run of play Bally grabbed their 3rd on 44 minutes.

Sam Traynor whipped in a corner, floating it across the 6-yard box. Rian Fitzpatrick lost his marker and with a glancing header he found the back of the net. Kilree were 1 behind again on 48 minutes. Paul Gladney found himself in space on the right wing. He glided past two and his shot expertly beat the Ballymurphy keeper. Bally got their fourth on 51 minutes.

A long throw in by Sam Traynor put the Kilree defence on edge. Their half clearance was picked up by Danny Jordan whose shot beat the Kilree keeper at his near post. Fiacc O'Rourke once again gave Kilree some hope on 54 minutes.

A free kick on the right this time was once again too powerful for the Ballymurphy keeper to hold, slipping through his fingertips. The final minutes of the game was all Kilree but with Billy at the heart of the Bally defence Ballymurphys keeper had little to do. It finished 4 - 3 to Ballymurphy.

Another 3 points for Ballymurphy sees them on top of the league for the first time this season

Burrin Celtic AFC      5,     v New Oak Boys AFC Green     0,

Saturday 7 January 2023      The Valley Ballon (Burrin Celtic)

A cold morning in Ballon saw an entertaining game played out. Burrin Celtic played a strong game against a young, developing New Oak side.

The goals were spread around the Burrin Celtic team squad today. Both teams had girls playing their first ever competitive game today which is only great news for the league and respective clubs.

Well done to both teams for whom the future holds plenty of promise.

Final Score – Burrin Celtic 5 New Oak Green 0.

Best for Burrin were Lucy Malone, Emily Gahan, Sophia Slattery, Katie Hourihane and Ella McDonald.

New Oak had strong performances from Anna Gurhy, Aoibhinn Keogh and Emily Carpenter.

Nurney Villa AFC      0,     v St Fiacc’s AFC      3,

Saturday 7 January 2023     Augha Road Nurney

Nurney Villa were unfortunate to lose all 3 points in this morning's encounter in Nurney.  The first half was a very close affair and despite a few chances neither team could make a breakthrough.  Half time saw the teams change ends at 0-0..

The second half started in a similar fashion.  Midway through the second half the visitors opened the scoring which was quickly followed by a second.  Nurney battled on and despite some excellent play they couldn't find the net.  A third St. Fiacc's goal near the end finished the scoring.  The final scoreline of  0-3 in St Fiacc’s favour was probably an unfair reflection on what was a very even game.

Best for Nurney were Elisa Nolan, Natalia Deka, Alice Carroll along with goalkeeper Zara Farrell.
