BRILLIANT BUGGY LANDS KILLER BLOW FOR ST PATS
Under 15 League Division 1 2022/23
St Patrick's Boys AFC 1, Crettyard United AFC 0
Friday 13 January 2023 The Meadows Graiguecullen (St Pats Boys)
A big attendance in the Meadows for this Friday night kick-off under the lights produced a cracker of a game.
Crettyard started the better and attacked St. Pats from the get-go. Seamus Lynch and Jack Doyle were causing Pat's a lot of problems but Jack McNamara and Ruari McEvoy in the center of St. Pat's defense dealt with everything Crettyard could throw at them.
Pats then started to win the battles in midfield and it was now Pat's turn to attack. Kacper Zarzycki was causing Crettyard a lot of problems and would have scored on numerous occasions only for some brilliant defending.
It was now end-to-end stuff with both teams attacking at every chance. A great move by Pats ended with Mark Buggy being fouled close to the sideline. Mark took the resulting free that hit the crossbar and rebounded to the Crettyard goal mouth.
The Pats players were convinced the ball had crossed the line only for the referee to wave play on. Soon after the ref blew the whistle to end a very entertaining 1st half and deservingly ending 0-0.
The 2nd half started with Zak Hernan in Pat's midfield providing some great passes through the channels to the lively Warrith Oyeniyi but the Crettyard keeper who had a very good game was quick off his line to stop any attack Pats had.
The game was now very physical with both teams giving everything to try and find an opener. It was obvious from early in the game that one goal would win it, and that is what happened when Mark Buggy produced some brilliant play to slot the ball to the bottom left of the Crettyard net.
The introduction of Sean Donlon, David McDonald & Callum O'Brien Murphy turned the game in favor of Pats who held on to take the 1-0 victory.
It was such a good game that every player deserves a mention but Seamus Lynch, Jack Doyle, Cian O'Sullivan & Daniel Lawlor were outstanding throughout the game for Crettyard.
While for Pats, goal scorer Mark Buggy, Zak Hernan, Mikey Whelan, Mauro Perez & Ruairi McEvoy all stood out.
Both teams enjoyed the Friday night kickoff under the lights and after such a physical but fair game it was great to see both teams shaking hands and smiling at the end. Well done to both teams for producing a very high standard of football throughout the whole game.

Hanover Harps AFC 0, Bagenalstown AFC 2,
Saturday 14 January 2023 The Plots (Hanover Harps)
It was a bad day at the office for Hanover, the game started well with both teams having an even amount of time on the ball. Bagenalstown seemed to edge that little bit further and were rewarded a goal when their no 9 TJ Ahmed slotted home in the bottom corner from a mix up in the Hanover box.
Straight from re-satrt Hanover's Gael O Rock took a shot and it just skimmed the post. The second goal came when TJ Ahmed got his head on a corner ball and put it in the back of the net. Half time Hanover 0 - Bagenalstown 2
Second half started much the same as the first which saw good soccer being played by both sides, a lot of pressure on the ball made the game interesting and both sides should be proud of the way they played. Hanover thought they had a goal when Sean Hayden lobbed the keeper but the ball bounced and went over the bar. Full time Hanover 0 - Bagenalstown 2
Best for Hanover were Conor McDaid, Leon Fitzgerald and Callum Martin.
Under 15 League Division One 2022/23
Burrin Celtic AFC 1, St Joseph’s AFC 0,
Saturday 14 January 2023 The Valley Ballon (Burrin Celtic)
Early start in Ballon on Saturday morning saw an exciting battle between Celtic & Joeys. Burrin Celtic dominating the possesion with St Joseph’s posing a threat on the counter. Following some saves from both keepers it was the second half when Celtic eventually found a way through the Joeys five-man defence.
A switch of play that enabled Aron Kelly to find Edward O Byrne in the box who neatly side stepped the defender and slot the ball home. That goal proved to be the winner but Joeys were left regretting a final missed opportunity that saw the ball headed over the bar from close range. On balance of play Celtic fully deserving the 1-0 win.
Best for Burrin were Aron Kelly, Charlie Clarke, Bradley Cummins & Edward o Byrne.
Under 15 League Division Two 2022/23
St Anne’s AFC 1, Ballymurphy Celtic AFC 1,
Saturday 14 January 2023 Ballylinan (St Annes)
First time for both these sides to meet this season on a very windy day. St Annes started strong and were against the wind in the first half but Ballymurphy took full advantage of the wind and piled on pressure to St Annes defence line.
Ballymurphy got a free kick which ended up in the back of St Annes net. Annes were under pressure but some brillant defence from them especially Max O Connor and goal keeper Andrew Knowles with some brillant saves in the goal saw the first half end 1-0 to Ballymurphy.
Annes had the wind at their back in the second half and they used it well piling on pressure to Ballymurphy’s defence, Annes were unlucky with some close calls with corners and some great attacking play but Ballymurphy held strong.
Annes goal came from a free kick taken by Oisin Kelly which hit the back of the net and the game was all to play for. Ballymurphy tried to get a goal for the win but it was Annes who were unlucky not to hit the back of the net again with some great play from them. Overall a great game of soccer from both sides. Full Time score a 1-1 draw.
All of Ballymurphy played well.
Best for St Annes were Max O Connor, Andrew Knowles, Oisin Kelly and Logan Brennan.

Baltinglass Town AFC 5, Vale Wanderers AFC 1,
Saturday 14 January 2023 Parkmore Baltinglass
A cloudy morning in Parkmore as Baltinglass hosted this under 13’s division 1 fixture. Baltinglass were quick to the start, scoring through Nicolas Warmuz after a corner dropped in the box.
They doubled their lead 10 minutes after with the second of the day from Nicolas once again, this time from a well delivered free kick, both from Josh Furlong.
Vale came back into the game with a mistake from the Baltinglass back line who failed to clear a ball in the box which was followed in by Vale’s Joey Drea but just before the half they redeemed themselves with a third goal. An assist from centre back Josh Barry set up Josh Furlong. leaving it 3-1 at the break to the home side.
The next 20 minutes of the second half were quiet, both teams settling in as Baltinglass started to dominate possession. Vale defended extremely well under the constant pressure and had some opportunities of their own but nothing clicked.
On 25 minutes of the second half Baltinglass found a fourth through another assist from Josh Barry this time to Daniels Viskers. Then 4 minutes later Josh Furlong claimed another assist this time to Filip Malagocki with a great finish. Final score Baltinglass 5 - 1 Vale.

Burrin Celtic AFC 3, v Parkville United AFC 0,
Saturday 14 January 2023 The Valley (Burrin Celtic)
On a cold and blustery Saturday morning, Burrin continued their unbeaten run and kept a clean sheet to win 3-0. It was mostly the home team that controlled the game and created numerous chances. Ciaran Redmond scored the first of the game when the ball came to him from a corner and coolly slotted it with his left foot. Shortly after, Bobby Finn scored Burrin’s second with a volley into the bottom corner. Half Time 2-0 to Burrin.
In the second half Parkville pushed higher and tried to break the home side down, but man of the match Daire Nolan and the rest of the back line stopped any chances going Parkville’s way.
With ten minutes to go, Tadhg Abbey scored a lovely volley into the top corner to make it a well-deserved 3-0 win to the home side.
Best for Burrin: Daire Nolan, Colm Donald and Ciaran Redmond.
Under 13 League Division One 2022/23
New Oak Boys AFC 0, Ballymurphy Celtic AFC 1,
Saturday 14 January 2023 Burren Road (New Oak Boys)
On a cold blustery morning on the Burrin Road, New Oak welcomed Ballymurphy. In a tough physical battle all over the field, it was New Oak who pressed from the start but it was Ballymurphy who came closest to opening the scoring on 16mins when James flood was put thru down the right but he shot across goal and wide as the angle narrowed. First half ended scoreless.
Second half started in same vein and New Oak continued to press all over the field when out of possession but couldn't find the final ball to trouble Ballymurphy keeper.
On 40 mins, somewhat against the run of play, Ballymurphy broke down New Oak in the centre of the field and were pushed wide but as New Oak were about to clear, Ballymurphys no 10 Sean O Brien got in front of New Oaks defender and lobbed New Oaks keeper from 25 yards to make it 1-0 to the visitors.
New Oak tried to step it up in search of an equaliser and did come very close with Cormac Lowry only for Jack Ivers to save on the line. The last 5 mins of the match saw New Oak with a number of corners but to no avail and Ballymurphy held on for a 1-0 win and all 3 points.
For Ballymurphy, Sean O’Brien was the goalscorer, Shane Jordan, Charlie Foley and James Flood were their best players.
For New Oak, Fiach Donnelly, Conor Dooley, Keelan Brennan, Joshua Walsh and Cormac Lowry played well.

Hanover Harps AFC 3, v Killeshin AFC 1,
Saturday 14 January 2023 The Plots (Hanover Harps)
On a sunny but blustery Saturday afternoon Hanover Harps hosted their first clash with Killeshin in the competition at home in The Plots. It was a nervous start by both teams with neither taking charge of play. Nearly twenty minutes in, Owen Fitzharris gave the home side the lead with a tap into the opposition’s net. From there Hanover had their best period of play of the game.
Owen Fitzharris was very unlucky not to get his second goal of the match when a great header just went left of the post. Hanover extend their lead to 3-0 before the end of the first half with goals from Mael O’Rock in the 27th minute and Andrian Robu just before the whistle. Score at Half Time 3-0 to the home side.
There were many scoring opportunities in the second half but it was Killeshin who scored the only goal of the half with Milo Doran scoring a goal from a corner kick.
Killeshin pushed hard from there but were unable to register any move scores. Hanover with a sigh of relief take all the points from the clash to stay up near the top of the table.
Best for Hanover: Senan Sheehan, Conor Wall and Mael O Rock.
Best for Killeshin: Max Denn, Milo Doran and Fiac Gaffney.

St.Anne’s were quickest out of the blocks when Myles Nelligan won a free kick, Joseph’s keeper couldn’t hold the ball and Mark Hickey headed home for 1-0. Just 5 minutes later another Myles free kick palmed back out and contested by Jamie Reardon and was poked home by Mark for his second goal.
That ended the scoring in the first half at 2-0 to St Anne’s.
Second half saw St.Joseph’s pile on the pressure and the St.Anne’s defense hold strong with a couple of good saves from Mark Kennedy in goal. 15 minutes left and Myles Nelligan hit a 20 yard shot to the back of the net. Game finished 3-0 to St.Anne’s.
Best for Anne’s was Myles Nelligan, Jake Kelly and man of the match Mark Hickey.

Nurney Villa AFC 2, v Parkville United AFC 0,

A hard fought game saw the home side take all 3 points. In the 23rd minute some great skill from Kian Minchin got him into the Parkville box where he crossed into Eli Fleming who finished to the roof of the net.
After this Parkville settled into the game and began to keep possession more with some very good passing in the middle 3rd of the pitch. The Nurney defence however was always in position to deal with any threats that came their way. Half Time Nurney 1-0 Parkville.
In the 40th minute Kian Minchin got on the end of a through ball from Alice Carroll and he gave Nurney a 2-0 lead which they saw out to the end.

Under 16 Girls League 2022/23
Vale Wanderers AFC 3, Burrin Celtic AFC 2,
Saturday 14 January 2023 Superbowl Leighlinbridge (Vale Wanderers)
Vale wanderers and Burrin Celtic girls played out an excellent game in the SuperBowl today. The conditions were unfavorable for a game of soccer with a blustery wind, which made it very difficult to get the ball down.
Burrin started the game well and dominated the early stages putting Vale under a bit of pressure. Leah Mannion started the game well and was pulling the strings in the middle of the park. Eventually Vale started to come into the game and went close with a Roisin Collins effort that was well saved.
Vale won a free kick on the edge of the box. Chloe Lawlor rattled the crossbar and Sarah Devine was on hand to mop up the rebound, putting Vale 1-0 up after 16 minutes. The rest of the 1st half was very even and the half ended 1-0 to Vale.
Vale started the 2nd half strongly and with 47 minutes gone on the clock, Sarah Devine got her 2nd of the match with a close range effort, doubling Vale's lead. This seemed to wake Burrin up and they started to dominate possession resulting in a goal for Mia Nolan halfway through the 2nd half.
Straight from the kick off Vale made it 3-1 with a nice goal from Kate Burke, Vale's top scorer. In true Burrin fashion they piled more pressure on the Vale defence and the excellent Leah Mannion reduced the deficit to 1 goal with 10 minutes left. Both teams had more chances but the game finished 3-2 to Vale.
It was an excellent game and both teams should be very proud.
Best for Burrin Celtic included Isabel Cronnin, Eimear Nolan and India Mernagh.
Best for Vale were Sarah Devine, Chloe Lawlor and Zoe Clarke
Under 16 Girls League 2022/23
Nurney Villa AFC 1, v St Fiacc’s AFC 1,
Saturday 14 January 2023 Augha Roqd Nurney
An entertaining, hard-fought game was played by both teams in very windy conditions and a good playing surface. Nurney played with the strong wind in the first half, though Fiacc's attacked from the kick-off, and won some corners. Nurney defended strongly and started to get a foothold in the game, putting Fiacc's under some pressure.
After some great work down the right, Mai Cradock burst into the St. Fiacc's box and put in a dangerous low cross that Kelly Tobin was quick to latch onto, finishing first-time into the corner with aplomb. Fiacc's to their credit performed well against the wind, with Mia Brannigan in midfield and Abbey O'Shea putting in some great work.
Ella Matthews was also threatening and the Nurney defence had to be vigilant but was well marshalled by Roisin Murphy. The lively Kelly Tobin was proving a real threat up front for Nurney, and created some half chances, though at the interval, Nurney were 1-0 up.
The second half started at a quick pace, with a real midfield battle going on, and neither side willing to give an inch. Both sides were showing good determination and commitment.
At the 65th minute mark, the ball made its way to Hannah Matthews, 20 yards from goal, and she shot nicely just inside the far past to level the scores. The pace of the game increased as both sides battled to find a winner, with both sides having threatening counter-attacks, but no further goals resulted and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Best for Nurney were Eve Kearney, Katie Cowman and Doireann O'Toole.
Best for St. Fiacc's were Mia Brannigan, Abbey O'Shea and Hannah Matthews.

CDJL Match of the Week No 7 - 14/01/23
U16 Girls League
Killeshin AFC 0 – 5 St Pat’s Boys AFC
Referee – Keeva Collins.
Report by Bob Howson.
On a bitterly cold day, Killeshin entertained St Pat’s Boys in a windswept Scats Quakers Park and St Pat’s took advantage of playing with the strong wind and it didn’t take them long to open the scoring after only three minutes when Katelyn Timmons fired into the corner of the Killeshin net from twenty five yards, giving Aoife Mullins – Killeshin’s Keeper, absolutely no chance.
St Pat’s doubled their lead after seven minutes to 0 – 2, when Heidi Jones fired home from twenty yards with her shot nestling in the bottom corner of the net.
Following a corner to St Pat’s Boys – Emily Kelly fired in a good shot that was well saved by Aoife Mullins, which gave her a lot of confidence.
St Pat’s won a free – kick on halfway that was taken by Emily Kelly, but it went wide for a goal-kick.
A good move on the right saw Paige Challoner latches on to the ball and she slotted home from close range to make the score 0 – 3 on 15 minutes, with little being seen of Killeshin, as an attacking force.
St Pat’s won another free – kick wide on the halfway line and it was taken by Emily Kelly, who fired in a shot from 45 yards and it went over Aoife Mullins and nestled in the corner of the net to make the score 0 – 4, giving Killeshin a mountain to climb to try and get something from this game.
Ciara Milton, Lucie O’Reilly and Natalia Szymonaska had been working hard all the first half for Killeshin, but had found it very difficult to make progress in creating any chances.
St Pat’s won another corner and Emily Kelly took it and fired it across the goal but nobody could get a touch and shortly after the half-time whistle went, with a 0 – 4 scoreline.
KIlleshin with the wind behind them, showed a lot more of their attacking prowess, with Lucie O’Reilly – exhibiting an unbelievable ‘motor’ as she was all over the pitch and she was assisted by Ciara Milton and their combination was causing problems for St Pat’s, although they didn’t create any real chances.
After only eight minutes, a good run and cross by St Pat’s Kate Culleton, resulted in an Own Goal by Killeshin – taking the score to 0 -5, which meant that Killeshin were well behind and it didn’t look as if they would be able to close the gap between the two teams.
Killeshin started to come into the game, with Lucie O’Reilly and Ciara Milton prominent but St Pat’s used their substitutes well and they kept out the home side and it ended 0-5.
Best for St Pat’s Boys were Paige Challoner, Summer Doorley, Emily Kelly and Grainne Thompson, whilst standing out for Killeshin were Ciara Milton, Natalia Szymonska, Katie Lowry and Lucie O’Reilly.
Lucie O’Reilly was the Player of the Match and she stood out from everyone on the pitch with her non-stop effort, throughout the game.

Saturday 14 January 2023 Burren Road (New Oak Boys)
A clear fresh morning in New Oak saw the clash of two of the top teams in the division with Killeshin coming out with the victory by the finest of margins. After an evenly matched opening period to the game Killeshin broke the deadlock 10 minutes in with a fine finish following some fine team play.
New Oak had a chance to equalise through Emily Carpenter shortly after but her effort hit the side netting. Killeshin made it 2-0 soon after with a close range finish following some fine play on the right wing. Half Time score New Oak 0-2 Killeshin.
The second half saw New Oak step up a gear and following some prolonged pressure Emily Carpenter scored a superb goal following a fine solo run. New Oak continued to pressurise, and it paid off when Daisy Cooney scored from the spot to make it 2-2.
From here the game could have gone either way but Killeshin proved to be the victors on the day scoring the winner following some pressure on the New Oak goal. Final Score New Ok Boys 2-3 Killeshin
For New Oak, Katie-Rose Nolan, Emily Carpenter, Kate Murphy, Erin Walker and Cara Shields impressed.

Saturday 14 January 2023 Superbowl Leighlinbridge (Vale Wanderers)
After the Christmas break both teams were well rested and ready for the match at a windy and cold Superbowl. In the first half both teams had periods of great attacking football, only matched by the defensive effect the teams put in. Alisha Nolan was on the end of a well worked Vale Wanderers attack scoring the only goal of the first half for Vale to lead 1-0 at the break
The second half started off much like the first with both teams putting in a power of work. Vale Wanderers were able to secure a second goal through Abbey O'Gorman early in the half. Ballymurphy Celtic dominated the next 15 minutes of the match with attack after attack, they were rewarded with a goal by Hannah Duggan.
Vale Wanderers were able switch from defending for a long time to attack with Sinead Sibanda scoring late in the match and securing a long-awaited second win for Vale Wanderers. Final score Vale 3-1 Ballymurphy.
