Vale Wanderers AFC     1    St Patrick’s AFC Green     1,

Saturday 18 February 2023 Superbowl Leighlinbridge (Vale Wanderers)

An entertaining game of football between two evenly matched sides at The Superbowl this morning. Both teams creating chances throughout the first half. With neither team able to find the net, they went in at the break 0-0.

Back out for the second half and the same pattern of play as we saw in the first half resumed with both teams creating chances at both ends. The tempo of the game had gone up a notch from the first half.

St. Pat's finally broke the deadlock halfway through the second half through the boot of Scott Lawler. Vale regrouped and had the score back level within minutes with a tidy finish in the bottom right corner by Mikey Dowling.

Both teams kept searching for the winner right till the end but the game finished 1-1 and the spoils were shared.

Goalscorer for St. Pat's - Scott Lawler

Goalscorer for Vale - Mikey Dowling

Best for  Vale - Jack Twomey, Ódhran Murphy and Noah Walsh.

St Pat's had a good all round team performance.

Killeshin AFC     2,    Parkville United AFC     1,

Saturday 18 February 2023 Scats Quakers Park, Killeshin

Killeshin started off strong with a great strike by Ciara Milton in the 10th minute but was matched with a great save by the Parkville keeper. Parkville had an opportunity  but missed the target by a couple of inches. Killeshin’s Cein McNamara had a great shot followed from a corner but missed the target as well. Parkville managed to score a header but it was offside by a small margin. Parkville took the lead by a good strike from Parkville’s attacker. H/T 0-1 Parkville

In the second half Killeshin’s Luke Malone was fouled inside the box and was therefore a kick from the spot for Killeshin. Ciara Milton equalised the match with a spectacular shot into the bottom right corner.

Mikey Reagan later scored a wonderful shot from just inside the box into the bottom right corner as well. Parkville didn’t lose hope and had a powerful shot that hit the crossbar. Both sides played until the end and it was a great match between the two teams in Killeshin. F/T Killeshin 2-0 Parkville.

Best for Killeshin : Dylan Scully, Sam Kelly, and Mikey Reagan.

Best for Parkville : Adrian Plonka, Theo McDonald, and Angie-May Doran,

Vale Wanderers AFC     1,    St Annes AFC     5,

Saturday 18 February 2023 Superbowl Leighlinbridge (Vale Wanderers)

The signs were ominous for Vale Wanderers who had suffered a heavy defeat to this St Anne’s side earlier in the season. After the initial 5 mins, St Anne’s were peppering shots at the Vale goal and it looked like it was going to be a long day for the Leighlinbridge side.

However, they grew into the game and despite going 1-0 down to a goal by Tiernan O'Donaghue, they held on and even grabbed an equaliser before the break from Diarmuid Redmond. H/T 1-1.

The power and strength of this St Anne’s side showed itself in the second half and a number of strong breaks up field resulted in goals for Tiernan ODonaghue. Roan Brennan and Cian Murphy, leaving the final score 5-1 to St Anne’s. A brave display from this Vale team who gave everything to the final whistle with some great battling and last ditch defending which kept the game from running away from them. Full-time 1-5 St Annes

.

Congratulations to this St Anne’s side who look to have all the hallmarks to challenge for the title this year.

Best for Vale included:Joey Drea Josh Dermody and Cómhal Murphy.

While best for St Anne’s were, Cian Murphy, Roan Brennan and Tiernan O'Donaghue

St Patrick’s Boys AFC     5,    St Joseph’s AFC     0,

Saturday 18 February 2023 The Meadows Graiguecullen (St Pats Boys)

Conditions quite damp for the early game of the day. However the home side were rewarded for a bright start with the opening goal in 5 mins. Lovely intricate play in the central area and a super through ball from midfield, left Kacper Zarzycki with a one on one.

He made no mistake with a shot low into the corner. The home side continued to press and the second arrived on 16 mins. A well taken corner by Jayden Kelly was met by the head of Kacper Zarzycki who made no mistake beating the keeper from 6 yards.

St Josephs continued to battle bravely however they could do nothing to prevent the third goal. Once again, lovely build up play in the wide area and Brian Santos beat his man to fire across the goal to set up Zarzycki for a super hattrick.

On 35mins another corner was drilled in and following a clearance from the Joeys defence, the ball fell to Lee Smith. He made no mistake drilling a fierce shot, low to the keepers right. Half time score 4-0 to the home side.

Both sides battled bravely on, and Kacper Zarzycki got his fourth on 54mins, a pile driver from 25 yards giving the goalkeeper no chance. The game played out to its conclusion where Joeys were unlucky not to get a goal back, however the home side also had numerous opportunities to add to the score but for bad luck, good goalkeeping, and good defending. All in all, a good days work for the home side. Full-time St Pats 5-0 St Joseph’s.

Great performance all around for St Pats, However Kacper Zyrzycki with four goals was the standout on the day.

Burrin Celtic AFC     4,    St Patrick’s Boys AFC     1,

Saturday 18 February 2023 The |Valley Ballon (Burrin Celtic)

Good performance by both teams but clinical finishing by Celtic made the difference. Both teams had strong periods on top on this game. Celtic started slowly not putting sufficient pressure on the ball.

St Pats looked hungrier and opened the scoring with a well worked passing move finished from inside the box. As if awakened by going behind Celtic started to attack straight away and Ciaran Redmond shot from distance to grab the equaliser.

The keeper was unlucky as the ball squeezed under his body to trickle over the line. Robbie Kelleher and Glen Cantwell took the game by the scruff of the neck and threatened several times, one of which saw Cantwell bury the through ball past the Pats keeper.

There was no sign of Pats giving in at any point and they continued to push for a second through several cleverly worked passing moves though the strong home defensive line were equal to the challenges clearing the ball to safety time and again. Harry Glynn secured the victory latching on to a loose ball in the box and shortly afterwards Cantwell was through for his brace again following a fine through ball finished to the corner to wrap up the game.

Both teams have played better in previous matches but Celtic were deserving winners on the day.

Nurney Villa AFC     1,    New Oak Boys AFC     2,

Saturday 18 February 2023 Augha Road Nurney

This was a very entertaining game in the u12 division 1 game between the home team Nurney Villa and New Oak Boys. New Oak came away with the points with a 2-1 victory but it was close in the end. In the first half New Oak had a strong breeze behind them. The two sides had their chances after some good passing and pressure by both teams. New Oak hit the crossbar with a shot from Eli Slevin. Nurney through some good passing worked their way into shooting chances that were snuffed out by the New Oak keeper and back line. New Oak got their breakthrough with a Michael Quigley gol just before half time.

The second half started brightly again with both sides having chances. New Oak got their second goal via a good strike from Conn Small. Nurney went about trying to get their own names on the scoresheet. Some sustained pressure resulted in them clawing a goal back after Finn Lawler finished from close range following some good work by Declan Kearney. The game was tight then until the end with New Oak hanging on in there for their win.

For New Oak Emily Carpenter shone.

Best for Nurney were Liam Nolan, Paddy Ranta, and Declan Kearney.

Ballymurphy Celtic AFC     1,    Hanover Harps AFC     2,

Saturday 18 February 2023 Ballymurphy

In a brilliant tough game of football Hanover took the upper hand in the early stages and Ballymurphy soaked up the early pressure, with the defence and keeper doing great work to keep it at 0-0, Ballymurphy then went up the other end forcing their keeper into a good save and midway through the 1st half with the game at evens, Hanover took the lead with a good goal.

Ballymurphy heads didn’t go down and they kept trying and kept good pressure on the Hanover defence. A few mins later Jimmy Scallan popped up with a real opportunist goal after great play by Cian Moylan to open up the defence.

Just toward the end of 1st half Hanover winger turned the defence and snuck in at the back and used good speed and footwork to make it 1-2 at half time.

Second half was one of the best you’d see with no goals but pure heart and determination from 2 powerful sets of players, the ball was pinged from right to left, up and down the centre in what was a tantalising 2nd half. We’d have to give great credit to both sets of players for putting so much in, with Hannover coming out the 1-2 victors in the end in a very sporting game.

Hanover spurred on by a great display by the centre midfield and defence and with Ballymurphy, the case today was the 11 players have to be credited for a brilliant performance in defeat.

Saturday 18 February 2023 The Valley Ballon (Burrin Celtic)

It looked very easy for Burrin Celtic  until the last 15 minutes when they led with goals from Jessie O'Neill with two Liam Dowling and then John O’Byrne but with some good work from Burrin Celtic goalkeeper Michael O Toole keeping St Anne's out but with all the attacking it paid off for St Annes with the goals starting to go in and then they played much better and got it back to a final score of Burrin 4-3 St Anne’s. This is the first win for Burrin u12.

Best for the home team was Fion Doyle, Callum Maloney and Eoin Farrell.

St Anne's got off to the better start and put St Pats under pressure from the first minute. This pressure paid off when Darragh Mulhall put St Anne's 1-0 up within the first five minutes.

Darragh followed this up soon after with his second to make it 2-0. St Pats started to settle into the game about half way through the first half but it was St Anne's who scored again when Eamonn Fennel made it 3-0. St Pats stayed battling and this paid off when Kevin Makiwa and Joseph Bello scored to make it 3-2 at half time.

The second half was closely contested with both sides creating chances but it was St Pats who  made the breakthrough when Kevin Makiwa scored his second mid-way through the second half to level the game. There were chances at both ends in the closing minutes but the score remained 3-3 until the final whistle.

Sunday 12 February 2023   St Patrick’s College

St Fiaccs have advanced to the last 8 in Ireland in the SFAI trophy competition following a hard fought victory over a dogged Dunshaughlin. In a game of few clear cut chances it was an Ashlee Smith goal in the first half following a Mia Branagan shot which cannoned off the cross bar and into Ashlee Smith's path for a simple tap in.

Hanna Kerfah and Orla Keating were cleaning up everything that Dunshaughlin could throw at them during the game and a resolute performance in the second half saw St Fiaccs advance.

Best for St Fiaccs were Ashlee Smith, Abbey O Shea and Orla Keating.
