SFAI U15 Trophy 2022/23

Hanover Harps AFC     7,     v    Youghal United     0,

Sunday 26 February 2023 The Plots (Hanowver Harps)

St. Pats put on an impressive display vs Youghal United in the last 32 of the SFAI Trophy, ultimately winning 7-0.

The Pats team were highly motivated to secure a place in the last 16 and played with great intensity throughout the game. Mark Buggy and Zak Hernan controlled the midfield from the outset, and a piece of excellent play by Warrith Oyeniyi resulted in a penalty for Pats.

Mark Buggy converted the penalty to give the team a well-deserved 1-0 lead. Soon after, Buggy's fast footwork beat four Youghal players, and Warrith Oyeniyi scored to make it 2-0. Pat’s continued to dominate the game, and only some good defending from Youghal prevented them from scoring more.

Shane Gurhy was a standout performer in the Pat’s midfield, and Youghal United struggled to cope with his skill. In the last 10 minutes of the first half, Youghal started to get into the game a bit more, but the half ended with the Pats leading 2-0.

In the second half, the next goal was crucial, and it was Pat’s who found the net when Shane Gurhy scored a brilliant goal from 25 yards.

The introduction of Emily Kelly in the Pat’s midfield provided the team with more energy, and it wasn’t long before Callum O'Brien Murphy scored a lovely goal to make it 4-0. Youghal had a chance to get one back, but a through ball to their striker went narrowly wide.

Pat’s continued to attack relentlessly and scored three more goals. Ruari McEvoy scored a great header, Jamie Hyland scored with a powerful shot, and Eanna Dunican rounded off the performance with a lightning-fast lob over the goalkeeper. Final Score St Patrick’s Boys 7-0 Youghal United

Youghal United gave it everything they had but Pat’s were simply too strong on the day. It was an all-around great squad performance from St. Pats and they deservedly advanced to the last 16 of the SFAI Trophy.

New Oak Boys AFC     5,     v   Baltinglass Town AFC     0,

Saturday 04 March 2023 Burrin Road (New Oak Boys)

New Oak hosted Baltinglass in this morning clash in the U-14 League. New Oak started on the front foot and putting Baltinglass under early pressure. An early ball into the box saw Cormac Murphy take the ball down and compose himself before slotting the ball into the bottom corner. New Oak stayed on the front foot, Murphy grabbed his second of the game when his strike found the far corner of the net.

This was a wakeup call for Baltinglass and they started to grow into the game. Josh Barry Doyle started to dominate his position with some excellent play. Baltinglass whipped in some excellent corners, creating some scoring opportunities but unfortunately, they failed to trouble Cathal Kennedy in the New Oak goal.

It was a New Oak corner, expertly delivered by Cormac Lowry into the box which saw Darragh Casey evade his marker to nod home from close range. 3-0 to New Oak at half time.

Baltinglass had the better of the early second half exchanges, but New Oaks Daniel Nolan and Cian Hyland managed to keep their attacks at bay. New Oak scored a fourth after a great run down the right wing by Kiegan Lawlor who crossed to the back post to Tobias Strebra to tap in.

It was Lawlor himself who grabbed the fifth when neat inter play between Jamie Doody and Darragh Casey put Lawlor through, he smashed the ball past the Baltinglass keeper, a blistering finish. Baltinglass showed true grit and determination, they never gave up. Marcus Whittle went on a great run past 3 defenders but saw his shot hit the side netting.

Both sides kept playing out a competitive end to the game. New Oak finished 5-0 winners but Baltinglass put on a very spirited performance with an excellent work rate.

Saturday 04 March 2023 Augha Road Nurney

In today’s game in Nurney both teams were very well matched in the first half. The two teams had good chances to score before a well taken free kick by Conal Dermody found the top corner of the Vale net to leave the halftime score 1-0 to Villa.

In the second half Vale pushed strong to get back on level  terms only for Noah Doyle to keep them out with some fine saves. With 5 minutes left Nurney finished the game by scoring a second from a corner when again Conal Dermady popped up to strike high into the net.   In the end the score seemed harsh on a young Vale team. Final Score 2-0 win for Nurney.

Best for Vale was Conor Stanley, Sean Sibanda & Matthew Jordan.

Score was 3-1 to Crettyard at Half-time.

 St Anne’s AFC     5,     v  Killeshin  AFC     0,

Saturday 04 March 2023 Ballylinan (St Anne’s)

A fantastic performance from St Annes Whites saw them come away convincing winners this afternoon against a very well drilled Killeshin team. Annes came out full of energy straight from the off with a near goal chance in the first minute, Mark Kennedy coming close. Killeshin responded well getting the ball out to their wingers and trying to feed the ball into the Annes box. But Henry Julian was commanding in his goal scooping up anything that came his way. The deadlock was broken when a lovely Annes move resulted in Kaylum Kelly scoring the first goal of the game with a lovely finish. Shortly after that the second came when Liam Hyde, who was terrorising the Killeshin defence all day wriggled himself free to score Annes second. Freya Conroy was commanding the centre of the park with pinpoint distribution and picking up great positions.  Danny Walsh came on for Conroy in the first half and played like a player possessed he opened his account with a lovely low drive into the corner to make it 3-0. That ended the first half.

The second half was much the same for Annes when Danny Walsh again found himself in space to extend Annes lead to 4-0. Killeshin kept battling and if not for some brilliant defending by the Annes backline they could have scored. Danny Walsh sprung up again to make it 5-0 and that was his hatrick. An entertaining game finished 5-0 with both teams adding to a very enjoyable game.

Star players for Annes: Danny Walsh, Mark Kennedy, Freya Conroy, Liam Hyde, Alex Tipping.

St Fiacc’s AFC     3,     v  New Oak  AFC Pink     3,

Saturday 04 March 2023 St Patrick’s College

A rapid start from St Fiaccs saw them score in the first 2 mins after Ciara Rooney’s shot was tapped into the net by Ashlee Smith. New Oak then got their foot in the game and were awarded a penalty which was converted by Aoibhe Murphy Halligan. New Oak continued to press and took a deserved lead through Erin Walker after some dubious St Fiaccs defending. But Fiaccs as always were resilient and equalised through Leah Nelson after a superb ball from Katelyn Moran unlocked the New Oak defence. On the stroke of half time New Oak got in again and scored their third goal through Erin Walker to lead 3 2 at halftime.

The second half was more end-to-end soccer and it took St Fiaccs until the final minute to break through a dogged New Oak defence to equalise through Ashlee Smith. The point just keeps St Fiaccs in with a chance of retaining their league title. Final score Fiacc’s 3-3 New Oak.

Best for St Fiaccs were Katelyn Moran, Ashlee Smith and Hanna Kerfah.
